Top 5 lipsticks at the moment

I've been neglecting my lip products for a while. Not intentionally, I've just been slicking on some lip balm as I'm running through the door. These last couple of weeks I've been making more of an effort, and I've found myself reaching for the same few lipsticks. In no particular order, my favourite lipsticks at the moment:

NYX Lipstick - Summer Love
A nude with brown/beige undertones, so it stops me looking washed out. It's also great when I've used bronzer as 'regular' nude colours are so pale and pink that they look like concealer. It's a semi-matte finish, so it's not the glossiest or most moisturising lipstick I own. I pair it with a lipgloss to counteract that though.

 

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick - Lingerie Pink
I <3 YSL Rouge Voluptes, and this colour is just gorgeous. It's a bright, vivid pink akin to MAC's Viva Glam Gaga, but is a much better formula. Fabulous way of having statement lips without being OTT. It's opaque with just one swipe, so although it isn't sheer, it is buildable to get a bolder look.

MAC Lipstick - Gotta Dash
My newest addition to my collection and it is an uber glossy coral colour. I love wearing this when I want my lips to be the focus but want something a little bit different to red or pink. I also like this because I love wearing peachy coloured blush, so they compliment each other perfectly.

MAC Lipstick - Angel
Old faithful and popular colour, Angel. It's a muted pink colour, so will go with a whole array of looks. It is a frost, which I used to hate, but the more I wear it the more I fall in love with this lipstick. I used to prefer Creme Cup (also from MAC) as the colour was identical but the creamsheen finish was better. Well, I've changed my mind and prefer this one. The frost finish adds a lovely sheen and because it isn't super glossy or shiny, I find it to be longer lasting.

MAC Lipstick - Victorian
This was a limited edition colour and I just adore it. This is reserved for Summer only as it is so bright and gorgeous. It is a pink-coral with a golden shimmer. Another frost formula so lasts a while, even in the heat (not that we've had much heat), and the colour is just glorious next to bronzed, glowy skin.

Products I'm loving at the moment

I noticed that I've been using the same products recently. I haven't had the inclination to try out new things, or reach for something different from my collection each day. I think I'm at that stage where, truthfully, make up is boring me. I just want a quick, simple routine in the mornings that makes me look half-decent, and I think the following products certainly help!

MAC 'Virgin Isle' Cream Colour Base

I have been after this for such a long time, but it was discontinued. MAC re-released it with one of their collections (I'm not sure which) and I missed out again, so when I saw a brand new, unused one in a blogsale for £10, I snapped it up quickly. When I opened it, I was a bit alarmed as it looked like a neon, orange toned coral that I would look ridiculous wearing. Thankfully, when I swatched it, I could see that it was a beautiful, pink toned coral, and despite it's vibrancy, it blends like a dream and adds a gorgeous flush to my cheeks. Swoon. I heart it.

Revlon 'Peach Petal' Lipgloss

I've featured this on previous 'favourite' posts, but I can't feature Virgin Isle without featuring this, as the two together make a beautiful, glossy, milky coral lip colour that I just adore. I love mixing these two as I can custom-create my shade. I prefer it when I've used bronzer as I can afford to be more vibrant, but even without it, I can create the right shade to compliment my skintone. I feel really pretty with this lip colour, defined eyes, and messy, wavy hair fixed with daisy flowers. Love, love, love.

MAC 'Shy Girl' Lipstick

Another lip product, I know, but another one I've been desperate to get my mitts on. I really love the creamsheen lipsticks and this is no exception. It is a creamy, nude lipstick with a coral tint to it, so it is a welcome change from my usual brown-toned or pink-toned nudes. Plus, being creamsheen formula, it has a slightly glossy finish. So pretty, and looks wonderful with a flick of eyeliner and Virgin Isle-tinted cheeks.

Skin Wisdom Instant Beauty Balm
I used to swear by this stuff, but stopped using it for one reason or another. Reading through some old blogposts recently, particularly this one, reminded me about it and how much I liked it. Of course, I couldn't do my weekly shop in Tesco without picking one up, and I've used it everyday since. The packaging is different but it is the same brightening, fruity formula that creates the illusion of a full night's rest.

Andrew Collinge Purity Hydrating Conditioner
When it comes to haircare, I'm a John Frieda girl through and through, but I saw this on offer recently and got tempted away. It contains coconut milk and manuka honey, so smells amazing, and is such a lovely, nourishing conditioner. I'm not using the corresponding shampoo (though the shampoo is still from the Andrew Collinge Purity range) but I will definitely be picking it up next time I'm stocking up because I think it will have an even better impact on my hair. Back to the conditioner... it makes my hair really soft and manageable, and I feel it does a great job of conditioning my recently bleached and frazzled ombred ends.

Connock London Kukui Oil Comforting Body Wash
I received this as a PR sample a couple of months ago and have honestly used it every single day since - and I still have a ton left! It smells comforting (strange that, being a comforting shower gel...) in a musky sort of way. It's not zingy enough to wake me up but it does smother me in scents that make me feel good, which is equally important in the mornings. Plus I feel all soft once I step out of the shower. I really, really like this shower gel.

Lollipop loves...

You may have noticed that I've stopped doing my monthly favourites posts. This is because I tend to reach for the same products on a day to day basis, and I wanted to dedicate the end of the month to my monthly lessons instead!

However, there are some things have been making me happy recently and I thought that I would share them with you. In no particular order, the things that I have been loving are:

Chunky rings

These two are my most worn (I think the turquoise one was from New Look, and the black on from Primarni), but I do love oversized, chunky rings. I personally think they slim down my chubby fingers, but I also love how they add a touch of drama (or glamour if I'm blinging it up!) to an outfit.

High ponytails

The world seems to be going mad for top knots at the moment, but my head isn't the right shape to get away with one of those. Not to mention my sticky out ears! Instead, my quick and simple, 2-second hair do of choice is a high ponytail. I'm going through a phase of hating my hair at the moment, so this gets it out of my face without being too structured. I also prefer it when it's messier too, so I'll often roughly tie it up before bed, sleep on it, then leave it as it is in the mornings. Bedheaded up to the max but I don't care!

My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

Need I say anymore? At 9pm on Tuesday, Twitter goes into overdrive and everybody goes mad for #BFGW. I'm enthralled by it and how the travellers live. I don't agree with most of their culture (like the grabbing, fighting or gyrating 6 year olds) but I am really enjoying this programme. I particularly adore the tack-tastic outfits of the wedding guests and of course, the bridal monstrosity gown itself.

MAC Lipstick - Creme Cup

Probably my favourite ever lipstick from MAC. Ever. EVER. It's such a beautiful, natural, milky neutral pink, and the formula is just so creamy and glossy. It's so easy to wear and goes with most looks I create, and it's the perfect colour to just throw in your make up bag to apply on the go. My only issue is it melts like a bitch, much the same as Creme d'Nude, which is also a creamsheen formula. I can overlook that though. This is my second tube of fabulousness.

New underwear

Last week my lovely fiance splurged on stocking up my underwear drawer, which I was absolutely desperate for! There is something about new underwear that makes me feel really confident and womanly, regardless of it not being on show! It's one of those things that is purely for me and making myself feel good.

Sugarsnap peas

Sweet, crunchy and perfect for snacking. I seriously go through packets and packets of the stuff - easily one a day! Nom nom nom... I'm getting a craving for them now actually.

November 2010 favourites

Almost another year over and done with! Eek! It's frightening enough how quickly these posts come around on a month to month basis, but when I think that this is my favourites post for November? Oh lordy - that is scary! That means it's almost 2011! Anyhoo, the favourites for this month:

MAC Lipglass - Icescape

I got this with the Chill collection, 2 years ago I believe, and to be honest, I only started using it up so I could B2M it. I didn't expect to love it as much as I do! I've enjoyed wearing this recently as it's given my lips a frosty yet glossy pale nudey pink look. It hasn't been too sticky either, which is a surprise as I find MAC lipglasses the stickiest of lipglosses I own.

MAC Brush - 219

This has been my favourite brush this month. It adds the perfect amount of colour and can be used in the crease or along the lashlines. It's been a great brush for doing precise work in the outer corner, with it being so small and all and it's blended the colour perfectly in the Outer V, whilst keeping the definition. I've been meaning to pick up a full size one for ages but I always seem to forget!

Barry M Nail Paints - 244 Silver Hologram and 293 Raspberry

Deep red nails with a glittery overlay - can you get anymore festive?! I love Barry M Nail paints because they're great quality and cost less that £3 per bottle. Can't go wrong in my opinion! I'm not a big lover of more expensive nail polishes because I haven't got decent enough nails to warrant using them, but these do the job perfectly enough for me anyway.

Matte eyeshadows

I've been loving matte eyeshadows with a dewy complexion and shimmery lips this month. My favourites have been quite boring shades - MAC's Brule and Blanc Type, and Urban Decay's Naked and Buck (from the Naked palette). Although the colours are quite safe and plain and probably 'blah', they've been creating lovely definition and impact on my eyes. I'm not sure whether it's because they're matte that they're more intense than they seem, but I love them. Brule is on the left and Blanc Type is on the right, and although they look the same, Blanc Type is much lighter so makes a great highlight. Well, I can tell the difference anyway.

October 2010 favourites

Happy Halloween! Today is my beautiful Mammy's birthday and the family went out for Sunday lunch. I'm absolutely stuffed now though there is birthday cake calling my name in the kitchen! I am so, so tired. We stayed up until 1am decorating the house with balloons and banners, carving a pumpkin, arranging flowers and wrapping presents. Then I was woken up at 7:30am but because the clocks went back last night it was really 6:30am. Not good! My Mammy is amazingly fabulous though, so she's worth it. Happy Birthday Mammy, my very own Witch ;)

Onto October's favourites. Not too many this month as I've been sticking to variations of the same look, but these products have stood out to me:

Sleek MakeUP Shimmer Blush - Sunrise

I've loved wearing all three blushes that I blogged about here, but probably wore Sunrise the most. The reason is simple - it suited the rest of my make up more than the others! I've been loving wearing plum recently, on my eyes or on my lips, so I've wanted something that added warmth to my cheeks without clashing with the plum, or fighting for attention. I love Sunrise because it's a bronzey colour so it's quite a neutral colour, and has plum/brown undertones to add a lovely warm flush. Plus, the golden sheen that runs through it has added a pretty highlight effect. It looks really dark in the pan, but if it works on my super pale skin, I guarantee it'll work on yours.

Benefit Eye Bright

Like probably every other woman on the planet, I acquired my Eye Bright a few months ago with Glamour magazine. I've worn it on and off since I got it, but this month I have worn it almost everyday. It's basically a white eyeliner with a hint of pink. I love it on the waterline because it doesn't seem as harsh or noticable as white, but it works just as well in the inner tearduct area or underneath the brow to highlight too.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick - 540 Galactic Mauve

I bought this last year and didn't really get a lot of wear out of it, but this year, as soon as September hit, I wanted to whip out my deep, Autumnal colours, and this is one of them. I've worn it practically everyday. It's a lovely pinky-plum colour with gold shimmer. It's the lipstick form of MAC's Trax eyeshadow if you're familiar with that. It's beautiful. It's not the most long-lasting lipstick I own, but the colour is so pretty that I will forgive it.

YSL Golden Gloss - 18 Golden Lavender

This has been the perfect lipgloss to compliment my plum lipstick. It is infused with gold sparkles and although it's lavender in colour, it's pretty sheer, so it has allowed the plum of the lipstick to shine through. It's not an overly sticky gloss so it's able to be layered over lipstick with ease, and smells (and tastes!) so damn good! I can see me enjoying this lipgloss for quite some time.

Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara - Black

I normally only use drugstore mascaras because I believe they do just as good a job as the higher end ones, for a fraction of the price. I got a sample of this when I got my Airflash foundation, and because I run out of my beloved L'Oreal Voluminous mascara, I turned to this. I've really enjoyed wearing this mascara. It's given me long, fluttery eyelashes and it takes no time at all to apply it in the mornings because the results are so dramatic. I can see me purchasing a full size of this one soon.

I'll try to overlook the fact that my camera seems to be a bit pants with thes pictures! What have you been reaching for this month?

September 2010 favourites

Hello cupcakes - hope you are all okay. September seems to have whizzed past in a blur really. It hasn't been a good month, which I won't bore or depress you with, but let's just say I'm glad to see the back of it! I'm looking forward to what the rest of 2010 holds, and dare I say the C-Word? I'm super excited for it! Christmas is my favourite time of the year and from October onwards I'm like a child, and get all excited during the build up to it. Anyway, back to the task at hand, some products that I have enjoyed using during September:

Lush Happy Blooming Bath Melt

I bought my first ever one of these at the beginning of the month and have gone through several more since. It smells beautiful, like sweet cherries, and it makes my skin feel lovely and soft. When I was buying my latest one, the Lush assistant said she uses this a lot and her favourite way to use it is to rub it onto her damp skin before stepping into the bath. I was a bit dubious about trying that method as I once got stained by a pink bath ballistic, but I tried it anyway and she was right - that is the best wat to use it! I dampen it and rub it all over, then sink into a lovely hot bath and watch it all melt away. The pink doesn't stain and my skin feels extra soft afterwards - far more soft than using the melt in the traditional way. This is a firm Lush favourite ever.

Urban Decay Naked Palette

This one had to feature this month. You've all seen it by now so I won't go into too much detail about it. I have used it every single day since I've had it and I am still not bored of it. Everyday I have a new favourite shade, but my most used are definitely Naked, Buck and Toasted. Oh so pretty.

Good Things Dream Cream Night Cream

I reviewed this here. My oh my, this is a gorgeous cream. I love how my skin looks and feels since I've been using this, and I haven't needed as much foundation during the day either. Even the cold weather can't make my skin dry out, and I think it's because this cream nourishes so intensely. I also like to use this as a hydrating mask. I spread a thick layer over my skin and leave it to sink in for about 10-15 minutes, then wipe away the excess with a cotton pad. I love, love, love it.

MAC Stereo Rose MSF

Now, I'm not going to lie, I only bought this because of the hype. When I got it, I thought it was pretty, but I hardly used it. In an attempt to use some of my unloved things, I started wearing it on it's own as a blush, and I have fallen in love. It gives me just the right amount of peachy-coral flush, with a lovely shimmery glow. It's been a lovely contrast to the smokey eyes I've been creating with my Naked palette.

Got2B Guardian Angel Heat Protectant

I'm not usually fussy when it comes to heat protectants for my hair. Don't get me wrong, I use them all the time, but I'm not fussy over brand as I think they do the same thing. My hair has been looking healthier since I've been using this one though, and I don't know whether it's a coincidence, whether it's the combination of hydrating products I've been using, or whether this has been protecting against heat better than the others. It smells lovely, has lasted me ages considering how long and thick my hair is, and only cost about £4, so is definitely my favourite heat protectant by far.

Dior Airflash Foundation

This foundation has a bit of history in my family. My cousin got married 2 years ago, and her skin looked amazing. We later found out that this is the foundation she used, and no word of a lie, every female in my family has used this foundation at some point since. Slowly but surely, we've all bought a can of it, and I can see the attraction. It's a spray foundation but isn't as messy as you'd think. The one I've got is slightly too dark for me now the sun has gone away, so I was sharing my Granny's whilst she stayed with us. It doesn't cake, looks healthy and dewy all day, and I didn't need to set it with a powder afterwards either. I don't tend to have trouble with my blush lasting, but it seemed to last a lot longer when I was wearing this foundation. I'm reluctant to use it everyday since it cost £32, but I couldn't help myself this month and used it a LOT!

The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson

This book has gripped me. I've ben enthralled since the first page and it has evoked so many emotions in me. I love Dorothy Koomson books anyway, as her stories are always well written and thought provoking, and this one is no exception. Don't be fooled by the cutesy cover - she tackles really sensitive issues, like sexual abuse, rape and murder, and I couldn't put it down. One of my favourite books of the year!

August 2010 favourites

Well, that's Summer over and done with. I know, what Summer, right? I'm so glad we're finally having some lovely sunshine as I'm seriously lacking in Vitamin D, and it couldn't come at a better time because I am off this week! Hope you've all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. We went to visit Mr L's family and had a yummy little BBQ. Here are some products that made the misery that was August a bit better for me:

MAC Lipstick - Angel

I know, I know, I gave this lipstick a good old bashing in this post, but I've been loving it this month. I've been using it because my Creme Cup officially bit the dust, but it's such an easy, natural pink to wear. It goes with everything too. I'm still not a fan of the formula - Creme Cup is still my favourite - but colourwise, it's beautiful.

MAC Lipstick - Cute-Ster

Another lipstick I've enjoyed this month has been Cute-Ster, from last year's Hello Kitty collection. It's a pretty neutral nudey pink colour with a slight coral tinge to it. It's a lustre formula so is lovely and glossy, and feels like silk on my lips. This has been my colour of choice when I wanted something more than nude, but not as full-on as pink.

MAC Eyeshadows - Patina, Trax, Satin Taupe, and Nanogold

I've been wearing some sort of combination of these colours for most of August. I usually wear shimmery bronzes during the Summer but the distinct lack of sunshine has made August seem more like Autumn, so I've been opting for these Autumnal shades. The colours compliment each other really well and have been suitable for natural daytime looks, or sultry, smokey nighttime looks.

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner - 1999

This is the eyeliner form of Trax eyeshadow, so the plummy shade has been a perfect addition to my looks, whether it was on the waterline or as an eyeliner on the upper lashline. It has tiny flecks of gold/bronze so it's added a bit of interest to my look. Nanogold looks particularly pretty when paired with 1999.

St. Ives Apricot Body Scrub - Invigorating

I was pleasantly surprised when I used this body scrub for the first time, especially considering how disappointed I was with a facial exfoliator from the brand. This is packed with exfoliating particles to scrub away every impurity, and my skin feels really smooth afterwards. Although it's really abrasive, it's not uncomfortable, so I've taken to using it on my face too. It's inexpensive at less than a fiver, so is a brilliant bargainous buy for your bumpy bums!

July 2010 favourites

Happy weekend cupcakes! I hope you've all had a good week. It's the end of July, though you'd never think it with the weather. If you think you've had it bad, think of poor little me in South Wales - notoriously wet and rainy. If you guys had sunshine, we had showers, if you had showers, we had rain, if you had rain we had thunderstorms and if you had thunderstorms, we had galeforce winds and thunderstorms! I think we saw a measly two days of sunshine throughout July, which is rubbish. Oh well, August starts tomorrow, so hopefully it'll bring some sunshine with it! Onto my favourites:

Illamasqua Lipstick - Obey

After missing out on both Ever Hip and Jazzed from MAC, I looked for some dupes in my collection. I don't have any as it goes, but on my quest I remembered how gorgeous this lipstick is. It's mega pigmented and is super long lasting. I still have it on by lunchtime! The colour is gorgeous too - you can dab it on for more of a nudey coral, or whack it on for a full-on coral lip. Absolutely beautiful and I can't believe it's been sitting neglected for a while. It's been my go-to lip colour this month and it looks really pretty with a nude gloss too, which brings me to...

Revlon Lip Gloss - Peach Petal

It's been neglected until now because it didn't work with my tanned skin, but this month I've been laying off the self-tanner (due to laziness) so it's the perfect nude gloss. It's not shimmery, it's more of a creamy finish, and it's definitely one of my more pigmented glosses. My lips are naturally quite pink and I don't need to use a lot of this for it to show up.

Dove Silk Glow Body Lotion

This has been my lotion of choice this month. It has very subtle, fine golden glitters, so I love using it on top of a (currently non-existant) tan. Although shimmery, I find it adds a beautiful sheen rather than all out Cullen-esque sparkle, and it is a lovely moisturiser too so my skin has been feeling really nourished.

Lush Soaps - Honey I Washed The Kids and Summer Pudding

Both of these are really creamy soaps that make you feel clean and refreshed yet moisturised, but I've been loving them for their scents. They are absolutely scrummy, with Summer Pudding being sweet and delicious, and Honey I Washed The Kids being more musky, earthy, honeyish (obviously). These are actually, quite possibly, my two favourite soaps from Lush ever.

Barry M 3-in-1Basecoat, Topcoat and Nail Hardener

I bought this recently during Boots' 3for2 offer, and because my local Boots didn't really have much colour selection, I chose this as my freebie. However, it's become an absolute staple for nail colour application, and it has helped even my cheapest polishes that chip within hours last for well over a week - even when I'm wearing my work shoes which tend to chip the polish on my toes. Bargainlicious £2.95 too, so what's not to love?!

L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara

I used to use this years ago but switched to waterproof mascara because my eyes are so sensitive. I've recently switched back to non-waterproof so bought this again, and I am in love with it. It took me a while to adjust to the brush because I'm used to rubber bristles, but I quickly adapted and it's become a staple in my make up routine. I love the full effect my lashes get from this mascara, without clumping or crisping them up. LOVE it lots!

MAC Pigment - Vanilla

I only bought this last month and I can understand the hype. It's a really pretty shimmery white/gold colour and is really versatile. My favourite and super quick way to use it is to use a gold or bronze cream base from my lashes to crease, then put this over the top all the way up to the brow. It adds definition on the lid and crease and a highlight under the brow, all in one easy step. My next plan for this pigment is to use it with clear nail polish to add a shiny top coat - I bet that would look stunning.

June 2010 favourites

I say it every month but this month has flown by. I think having a hectic week last week helped in that department! We had a very busy week in London and then we spent the weekend in Cardiff with my sister-in-law, to try and drum up some votes to help her win a radio competition to have her dream wedding. She made it to the final five over hundreds of other applicants, but unfortunately, she didn't make it to the final two. The two lucky brides who got the most votes spent all day yesterday trying to get as far away from Cardiff as they could on £10! I'm yet to find out who won eventually but my sister-in-law is absolutely over the moon with her runner-up prize - she got some tickets for the Mamma Mia show in Cardiff and the radio station is paying for her hen night, so she's happy! Thank you so much to everyone who voted for her. Apparently the votes were really close, and it is disappointing to fall at the last hurdle but she did a brilliant job to get that far. They're still getting married next year and that's the main thing.

Anyway, here are my favourite products for June:

ELF Powder Brush

I won this in a blog giveaway a little while back and have used it everyday since I received it. It is the softest brush I have ever felt and it hasn't shed at all, even when I'm washing it. Because I won it, I'm not sure how much it cost, but I'm almost sure that since it's from ELF it's pretty inexpensive. I love it though and will definitely be looking into more of their brushes.

MAC Cream Colour Bases - Crushed Bougainvillea and Pearl

Crushed Bougainvillea was a limited edition with MAC's Emanuel Ungaro collection a few years ago so it is unavailable now, but it is a hot, deep, berry pink. There are similar colours available at MAC Pro, I'm sure, and although it looks scary in the pan, it can be applied with a light hand to just add a glowing, pink flush. So pretty.

I'm sure you all know by now that Pearl makes a stunning highlighter, particularly when I'm trying to avoid an overload of powder products. I like to use this to help blend out the edges of Crushed Bougainvillea too, and haven't worn one without the other this month.

MAC Blush - Blushbaby

This is the blush I've been choosing to put on top of my Crushed Bougainvillea/Pearl combo. It looks really plain and boring in the pan, and admittedly, it's not the most eyecatching, but this is a lovely, neutral dusky rose that I'm certain would suit everyone. It goes with everything, and the CCB's underneath add a new dimension to it. It's a super duper pretty combination.

Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss - Electrify

I'm normally a lippie girl but I've really been enjoying glosses this month, and I've been favouring this super pretty, baby pink lipgloss that smells and tastes like sherbert by Illamasqua. It's yum! Because it's a sheer gloss, it goes with dramatic eyes just as well as it goes with neutral eyes, so it's great for a multitude of looks.

Urban Decay Liquid Eyeliner - Minx

My eye make up has been so simple this month - a wash of MAC's Brule over the entire lid and brow bone, some Benefit Hoola bronzer in the crease, and a thick, flicky line of this eyeliner by Urban Decay. It's a gorgeous, deep turquoise/teal colour, and I'm finding it's the perfect colour to brighten up my look now that my hair is darker.

Lush Massage Bar - Mange Too

My skin is quite dehydrated, even in the Summer, and to moisturise my skin well enough for fake tan application I've been using this Mange Too massage bar. I've been a fan of the massage bars for quite some time and have to use one almost everyday in the Winter. However, because it's so hot and stuffy now, I limit my use to one or two nights a week, but that is plenty to give my skin the hydration it desperately needs. This one is lovely because it's a minty, white chocolate, honeyed banana bar of yumminess. The only thing is I want to eat it whenever I use it haha.
