97 Sewing Rooms!

I don't know about you, but I love to peek into other people's sewing rooms and see how they have it organized and decorated. It's also a great way to get new ideas for my own sewing room. This is a photo of my current sewing room--on a good day! I want to paint my walls a pale pink and the wall of built ins in a creamy soft white--although not anytime soon I'm sure as I'm too busy--sewing!

Here's a really cool site to check out that has 97 links to sewing rooms! My old sewing room in Florida is # 13. If you email Carol photos of your sewing room she'll add them to her site and it seems she's added something new each time I visit. Hope you'll enjoy the trip....................

Show And Tell Friday--Some Favorite Things

I've recently discovered Show And Tell Friday hosted by Kelli http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/

Make sure you check out her site and visit all the other Show And Tell Fridays.

For my first Show And Tell Friday I chose a little spot in my sewing room right above one of my work areas. I keep some of my most favorite things in this little spot--which is part of a large built in bookshelf area.

There are pincushions and sewies made by friends, Deb H, Kelley B, Terri P and one by me. The big doll--Ophelia was made for me by me very good friend Donna B, the itty bitty spool doll was made by Terri P. The framed sewing machine picture is actually the cardboard envelope that held matching stationary and I just loved the picture so much that I framed it.

I hope you've enjoyed my Show And Tell Friday share and now I'm off to visit the other Show And Tell blogs to see what they're all up to. Don't forget to visit blogs link.... http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/ Enjoy the weekend!

Primitive Pincushions & Sewies to Drool Over!

Wow! Look at the totally awesome pincushion and sewies I got in the mail today! These were made by Deb H for the Pincushion/Sewie Swap we're doing at the P&R and she spoiled me good! Thank you Deb!

This first one is a gorgeous prim pincushion out of civil war repro fabric that sits upon a little box--great for storing sewing tools and notions in. I love the little extras she pinned to the top, some great old buttons!

Oh you should see the punchneedle work on this beauty! I love this bird! A gorgeous sewing pocket also out of civil war repros. The pictures just don't show how beautiful these pieces truly are!
Here's a view of the pocket open, complete with a prim pincushion stitched in and then on the side is a very unique sock darner from Lancaster, PA and a wonderful smelling lavendar sachet.

Deb these are absolutely gorgeous and I'm just tickled pink! Thank you!!!!

First Attempts At Punchneedle

Here it is--my first attempts at punchneedle and I love it! It's one of those things you can sit and do and let your mind wander or listen to a movie and not have to think about what you are doing.

The blobs in the corner are hearts--hopefully when I get the area punched next to them I can define their shape a little better. The pattern is one by Sally Van Nuys Brown from a Create & Decorate magazine--I'll have to go look up the issue. Since I love heart and hands this makes a perfect starter piece.

A couple of things I learned right off---weavers cloth is a must! Osnaburg is not good for this--not even for practice when there is no weavers cloth in the cupboard and also that the lip of the insided ring of the hoop goes at the top side! Big difference when trying to stretch that fabric drum tight. Other than that I'm blissfully clueless and will keep punching along and learning as I go.........

Needlebooks

I followed a link that Suzanne posted at the Crazy About Pincushions group on Yahoo.. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crazyaboutpincushions/ that led to another link and then another one and so on and then I found this link....

http://chloesplace.blogspot.com/2007/06/needlebooks.html

So now I am posting my needlebooks--some made by me, some by friends and then I'll go to Chloe's and leave her a link back here. See why it's called the world wide WEB--we get tangled up looking at everything there is out there! If any of you have needlebooks on your blog or know of a needlebook on someone else's blog please feel free to share here by posting in the comment or by doing the same at Chloe's.

This first little needlebook was made by Teresa of http://www.auntpollysattic.com/ for a swap we did a few years ago. It's attached as part of the awesome pincushion on a candlestick. It's open view....

Closed view.....
I love the feel of the wool that this fish is made from. It is by Kristy K, also for a swap a few years ago.....
and here is a view of the inside. I really like that I can keep my larger needles in this one.
Wooly little sheep by Mariah S from a swap she and I did a few months ago at the CAPC group on yahoo. Isn't it adorable!
This is one that I made from wool felt using a Crabapple Hill pattern. It is part of a set. I love Meg Hawkey's patterns and I see this one is being discontinued, so if you like the pattern get it soon! http://www.crabapplehillstudio.com/product.asp?intProdID=1946
I just love this little paisley needlebook made by my friend Deb S for a swap a few years ago. It is my most used needlebook and it travels with all of my projects.
Here is a neat little wool needlebook that came as a kit as a thank you in an order from a friend Roseann Kermes of Rosebud's Cottage http://www.rosebuds-cottage.com/intro.html Check out what Roseann does for APQ too... http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/apqclub/index.html This is a needlebook I made for a swap out of an old lace table runner and vintage images that I added.....

partial inside folded out.....
needlbook cover when folded out all the way.
This is an adaptation of a Crabapple Hill design that is a needlebook with a little extra added to it. The original pattern I adapted it from is here....
The inside view........

Before I forget here is the link that Suzanne at CAPC shared with us earlier. It a vintage Dinah pincushion pattern and her collar is the needlebook......

The Bookmark Swap

I just finished a small bookmark swap with a couple of friends at the Primitive & Rustic board, so I thought I'd share what I received and what I sent. I love these bookmarks and it's a great way to remember my friends!

This first one is by Joanne G. It's a bookmark thong made with beautiful green glass beads and silver leaves and it makes the coolest sound when they brush against each other and it really dresses up a book and makes it look pretty--sort of like book jewlery. Thank you Joanne! I love it!

These 2 are by Dawn S. She also made a bookmark thong, but with very different beads. That's what I think is neat is that they can be the same thing, but so very different. She also made a very pretty large bookmark--for a larger book and it will be very easy to find my spot with that one--neat idea. Thank you Dawn I love them both!

These last 2 are what I made--nope no thong--wish I had thought of it though! These are both decopauged--the first one is done with fimo clay and a clothespin and the second one is decoupauged paper onto an over sized popsickle stick--never used before--brand new, so no germs! LOL!

This has been a fun swap as usual and I hope to do it again someday. I love to swap with all of my online friends and am working on projects for a Paper Bag Book Swap, Folk Bird Swap, Pincushion/Sewie Swap and a Doll Quilt Swap. I am a swap piggie and have earned my name. LOL!

What I Did Yesterday--Friday the 13th

My big plan for yesterday was to go to one of my favorite craft stores and not much else, but instead the husband only had to work for a short time in the morning, so we took off for a drive and this is where we went..............

This is the Snake River in Swan Valley, Idaho--about 4o miles up the road from where we live--and if you look real close you can see a couple of moose in the river having a drink. We love to go on drives and try to spot the moose and the elk. These were the only ones we saw yesterday as it's been so hot here they're probably all hiding in the shade of the woods....................

Here's another shot of the valley as we're heading up into the mountain area and not too far away the Targhee national forest. Then my camera died, because I forgot to charge it!
All in all it was a great Friday the 13th. We had a nice lunch at a small pizza place up the road from here and just enjoyed the drive down from the moutains and into the farming valleys. When we got back to town I dropped the husband at home and then went and hit 4 craft stores! Only ended up buying some supplies, but it was nice to get to shop for a bit. Then we ended the day with dinner at local restaurant that is a 50's theme diner--had an awesome tuna melt with a Heath Bar ice cream shake for dessert. A pretty good day I'd say!

My Wishy Wanty List

My Wishy Wanty List..........

Here are just a very few of the things I have on my Wishy Wanty list............

I found these gorgeous porcelain French charms while blogging this evening. I want a pink one a blue one a star one and one with a ladies pictures on it. I found them here.............. http://willows95988.typepad.com/photos/ephemera_/porcelaine.html

And I would love to have just one plate--I don't really need a whole entire service for 12--see I'm not greedy! of this gorgeous brown and pink Spode dinnerware. I have no clue what the pattern is. I found this while surfing flickr.com and forgot to mark who's album it was in.

And last but not least and really not last either, because I have a very long list of wants, I would love, love, love to own any doll created by Nicol Sayre--found here......http://nicolsayre.typepad.com/nicol_sayre/2007/07/index.html Nicol is my all time favoritist artist and favorite blog!

Dear Fairy Godmother, Magic Genie, Good Witch of wherever, or any other magical super power with a wand, I've been very, very good--as always--and these are a few of my wishes I would like to have granted--please--with a great big sugar plum on top.

So do tell--what is on your Wishy Wanty list?

Frosty Primitive Snowguys

It's so hot here in the west--we're up to 97 today, so I thought maybe some primitive snowmen would help cool it off. This is a new E pattern I just listed over at Pattermart--there's a link to the left if you wanna take a peek. They're great as bowl fillers or ornaments and very quick and simple to stitch up. Good for selling at fall shows or tie one to a gift for a friend. I think I can feel the temperature dropping already! Happy Stitching!

Paper Dolls Galore!

We never seem to outgrow paper dolls no matter how old we are. When we were little girls we would sit and cut out our paper dolls and their clothes and dress and re-dress them and now that we're mostly grown up we can enjoy just collecting them or using them in altered art projects. No matter how we use them they are still just as fun.

Below are several links to paper dolls that can be printed out and used in your projects or have a paper doll afternoon with your daughters, granddaughters, neices or anyone who loves paper dolls. Have fun and enjoy!

Victorian Paper Doll--this is like the one I have pictured above and there are 3 dfferent dolls. I used little heart brads found in the scrapbooking supplies at Joann's to attach her body parts.

The Pledge of Allegiance

Since this week we will be celebrating Indpendance Day I thought I would share two of my favorite renditions and commentaries on the Pledge of Allegiance. I hope you will enjoy them.

Just click on the links below to go to the following pages....

The first one the Pledge of Allegiance by John Wayne...........

http://www.fromtheheartpostcards.com/ICQ/PledgeofAllegiance.html

If you enjoyed that make sure to check out these other patriotic selections by John Wayne.........

http://www.fromtheheartpostcards.com/ICQ/JohnWayneMenu.html

The last one is by Red Skelton. Listen closely to his and see if you note anything different--then keep listening as he finishes......

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/redskeltonpledgeofallegiance.htm

May we always have the freedom to recite and keep the Pledge of Allegiance and enjoy our freedoms.

NOTE: If you see a large blank area below this post, keep scrolling down and you'll end up at the next post. Blogger is being persnikety today. Thank you! :)
