Luhya Wedding Traditions

The Luhya community mostly resides in the Western part of Kenya with a population of about three million. Known for their elaborate ceremonies, the Luhya enjoy holding big parties to celebrate occasions. Luhya weddings are very elaborate and important occasions. They are accompanied with many wedding photos and celebrations. Before one gets married, the groom will have taken bride wealth to the bride's parents as a sign of gratitude. Unlike Toronto wedding ceremonies, bride wealth is meant to cement relations between the two families.

The first step before a Luhya traditional wedding can take place is payment of the bride price. The groom is expected to take a token of appreciation to the bride's parents to show that the parents raised their daughter well. Traditionally, this token would be in the form of livestock or farm produce. This token would act as a token to show how much the man cares for his future wife and show that he can provide for his future family as well. The Luhya community is known to love chicken and these are provided in plenty for guests to eat. On the wedding day, the man would go to the bride's homestead and call out the girl's name. If the girl responds, the ceremony can then go on. In the past, guests in attendance dress in special traditional attire with paintings all over their bodies and dance the whole night. The ceremony would last for about three days. The married couple would then proceed to their new home.

Present day Luhya wedding ceremonies are more modern and include celebrating the event in a church. Dancing and singing accompany most luhya weddings. Groups of women who sing praise songs encircle the bride. The wedding party normally arrives at the church a few minutes before the ceremony starts. The ceremony is usually recorded on video and wedding photos taken. This is one attribute that both Luhya and Toronto weddings have. Once the church ceremony is over, the wedding party goes to the reception venue for wedding photos and food. Luhya weddings have plenty of traditional foods to offer as well as western cuisine. Entertainment in a luhya wedding involves singing traditional songs and dancing to their tunes. Luhya dancing is quite vigorous and is a very entertaining activity. Unlike in Toronto, Luhyas can hold their ceremonies for as long as two weeks.

A Luhya wedding is not complete without speeches. The speeches normally come after gifts are given and wedding photos are taken but before the cake is cut. The theme of most wedding speeches is usually advice to the groom and his bride on how to take care of their new family. Grooms are advised to take care of the wife and the bride is advised to cook properly for the husband. Different people who may use a lot of proverbs and sayings to drive the point home give variations of the same message.

After the main event, the bride and groom go to their new home. The wedding photos taken serve as a reminder of the wedding ceremony. They can be passed down from generation to generation and act as a teaching aid to their children on the importance of marriage and families.

September is National Sewing Month

Here we are again. September is National Sewing month! Do you sew? Would you like to learn to sew? How old were you when you started sewing? I've been sewing since I was about 10 or 12 years old, but recently I seem to be on break from much sewing, so I'm thinking this would be a good month to get myself back into gear and start sewing and creating again.

Here's a simple outline of a girl hand sewing that would be cute done up in redwork.

And a neat old calendar with children sewing.

In honor of National Sewing Month I will offer my Vintage Sewing Ephemera CD found at Patternmart for only 4.00 postage paid.

And here's a few links to some fun sewing projects around the net.....

Folk Art Needlecase

Mill House Inn Tote Bag

Prairie Flower Pincushion

Sewing Caddy

Over 50 Free Apron Patterns

Slippers

And speaking of slippers check out this great charity challenge for sewing slippers

Oh there's just so much more to sew out there, so quick!, grab a needle and thread and create something fun today!

August 2009 favourites

Can you believe that it's the last day of August? You know what that means - summer is coming to an end! If you can even call this rubbish weather a summer! I was chatting to Ella on Twitter last night and we both have bought pretty gladiator sandals that we haven't been able to wear. Instead I've dug out my Uggs. Boo... I love Autumn though - just wish we'd had a proper summer first!
So onto my favourites! I actually don't have many, because August was a month of using up some things so I could Back-2-MAC them. I got enough for two lipsticks, as you saw in my recent 'Shopping Spree' post. But here's what I favoured in August:
My favourite eyeshadow combo was (all MAC) Blanc Type, Amber Lights, Tempting and Carbon. I love my neutrals, whether it be simple and pretty or smokey and sexed up. These are the colours I wore most this month, and I think they work well together. I came up with many different looks just using these four colours, with the odd pigment or dazzle dust thrown in for good measure. If you don't own these colours, why not?! Get thee down to MAC now!
Superdrug's Natural High Eye Brightening cream. I love this stuff. Every eye cream I've tried has never really given me the feeling that it is working - but this one really does brighten up my eye area. It contains arnica, which is known to reduce bruising, and my dark circles are so bad they could be mistaken for bruises at times!
MAC Pure Rose lipstick. August has been the month of the nude lip, and this one has been my favourite. It's a pinky nude which I love, and because it's a lustre, I don't need to put a gloss over the top - which is great because I'm not a fan of loading my lips with product. Lip balm, lip liner, lipstick AND lipgloss, is sometimes too much. As you can see, I really love this lipstick!
And that's it really. Told you there wasn't much! A non-beauty related thing I've been loving this month though, is The Time Travellers Wife - the book, not the movie. I want to finish the book before I watch the film, and I'm about 3/4 through it. It's really good, if not confusing. I've got a rough idea of what happens at the end. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film - Rachel McAdams is a great actress, and gorgeous to boot! Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
Hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend, whatever you did. We went to see Harry Potter today (I know, I know - I'm really late seeing it!) and we really enjoyed it. There was a trailer for New Moon too, so I've had a little Edward fix today :) We're just going to get something to eat then have a cosy night in, before we go back to work tomorrow. We've had 10 days off and it's been lovely spending time together. Really don't want to go back to 'normality' tomorrow!! xx

Packaging vs Substance

The oppressive heat sent the hubby and I seeking shelter in one of those, “Mc Funster” chain restaurants this afternoon. Neither of was feeling like anything in particular and the stickiness of the air was hanging on my back making food the last thing on my mind, so what did I care if we ended up eating some benign crap…it was going to be cool and I could get me a Gin & Tonic to soothe my heat induced crabby mood. We waited a minute for our oversized booth, ordered our drinks and looked at the cartoon riddled menu before opting for an order of chips and salsa to start.

We have been so tied up with other things that we have been neglecting spending any time together, just the two of us alone…not that we are that couple, the “we need to make time for us” couple. We are together all the time, shit he works from home, wish sometimes that he were gone more, the whole absence and fonder deal, but time away from our little “stations” at home sounded like just what I needed…yeah, so the Mc Funsters.

“Sapphire with a splash of Tonic, I made them myself” our slightly flirty waiter said as he plopped the drinks down before us, “You two ready to order?” We were, we did and I munched away on my too thick, needing salt chips and salsa. I took a few sips from my, “Whoa he aint lying” cocktail and felt my shoulders begin to loosen…..BLAST, a rush of screaming hot, wet air met the side of my face, “What the F@#&*!” I glared and my head snapped around to see just what, and whom had assaulted me. And there she stood, a cute little blonde girl in a sundress, she had just come in from the outdoor patio and was bounding over to the table where the, “grownups” were. “Oh okay” I thought and went back to retelling the hubby a story about a book I had just finished.

BLAST! Freaking heat wave was up in my mug again, oh and yes…it was little miss sundress again, this time going back out to the patio. I was mildly annoyed but tried to shrug it off and just chalk it up to 10 year old behavior.
Blast, heat…irked.

Blast, heat…irked.

Blast, heat…getting pissed.

This happened no fewer than 15 times during the course of a chain restaurant lunch, that’s pretty aggressive in the coming in and out department. I went from being irked to being massively pissed off, just who was in charge of this sundress clad, flame thrower? Why was this kid running in and out of the joint behaving like a puppy with an enlarged urinary tract? Was no one watching this little beast, making sure she like sat and ate her meal, oh and didn’t piss off the people sitting by the door….donde, donde the parents? Then I saw Mom…

You know those people that are, how best to say this….trying real hard? Mom was yellow blonde, deeply tanned…too tanned, she must have been late thirties early forties but the sun, well it had taken its toll…she looked like a Louis Vuitton bag. Her body was super tight though, real tight, like she had ripped in all the muscle her 19 year old, Latin American trainer could get out of her. Tank top, short shorts and wedgy heel things…she appeared a few times, each time I assumed to reel in her rug rat, yeah but she didn’t. She was just prancing around the restaurant, popping her head out the patio door, (yes, she was opening it too) to “holla” at her little fire starter….way to go lady.

I ate as much as I could stand and was anxious to get the check and get the hell out of there, the wee one had bummed my whole meal with her imposing her 10 year old will, and blasts of fiery hot air that came with it, upon me that and her Mom was just a reminder to me, a reminder of what I hate about packages.

This woman, on paper was the whole package. Blonde, lean, fertile and willing to do whatever it took to make herself attractive. After we got in the car I looked at the hubby and said, “I would rather be fat, ugly and barren, than be that woman” Carl chuckled but I could tell he knew what I was talking about. You can work out, Lipo, Derma-brase, diet and tan until the cows come home…but all that shit has an expiration date so you better have something of substance on the inside right? Know what I think is my most attractive qualities are, I raised a person that is better than I am and I am honest. No bells and whistles here kids, no wedgy heels, no pimpin’ my wares, just trying to muddle through and feel like the shit I have going for me is the junk on the inside. So the rub? Most people are dazzled by the shiny package.

It’s no different with wine, I cannot tell you how many times I have walked through the store with a timid customer that confessed that they knew nothing about wine. I point things out, explain why I think this wine would make a great gift, only to hear, “She loves cats, do you have a wine with cats on the label, that would be fun!” sigh, “Or you could go that way” is all I can say. Or the person that pays an extra $15.00 to have their $7.00 wine shrink wrapped into a basket, really….you wouldn’t rather spend that extra cash on an upgrade? I can stroll up and down the isles with people only to have them dismiss every recommendation in favor of, “Oh what a pretty bottle” If you are buying a gift for your wine loving peeps, don’t be dazzled by the package, find out what is inside from someone that has tasted it….trust me.

Those of us that are “really into it” could give two shits about the packaging, thick glass, deep punt, long corks and flashy labels mean nothing, Far Niente…just sayin’…..none of that means a thing when you have, “the rest of the budget” in your glass. You ever spent an evening with a beautiful retard…(okay for you guys, let’s make it a week, or a month) great to look at but down-right excruciating to try and find interesting. Shiny, flashy, showy and primary is only sexy for as long as you are “looking” at it, once you try and truly understand it, taste it, appreciate it well sometimes…there aint no there, there

The People Have Voted

“We just got a notice that we received an Honorable Mention for Best Wine Store in Long Beach. Honorable Mention…who won?!” it was Dale, (Randy’s wife) her face was so expressive, so readable, she was crushed. “Um, what publication?” I asked her, “Beach Comber” she replied, “Oh then Trader Joes is going to win” I blurted. I didn’t say it to sound like an ass but my mind shifted back to when The Press Telegram, (Long Beach paper…horrid, horrid rag of a paper) used to do, “The Best of” contest once a year….(shrugging) Trader Joes, Best Wine Store…always went to Trader Joes.

“If they win then it is because they have a bigger selection of cheap wine.” Dale said looking even more irked, “Exactly why they ARE going to win” I replied. So a couple of weeks later when Randy walked in with his crunchy little, been-left-on-the-front-porch-too-long copy of The Beach Comber I first asked, “Dude did you let the dogs wiz on it first?” as it was sporting a very wiz-colored patch, and then was not at all surprised to see the winner of The Best Wine Store in Long Beach was indeed awarded to Trader Joes. Seems like “good enough” took first prize again, Yay! As I looked over the other, “winners” I had to wonder just who the hell voted in this thing…Best Sandwich went to Subway and Best Breakfast went to Denny’s….freaking awesome.

I’m the first to admit for a big city, Long Beach has a near terminal lack of decent restaurants, seriously there are like 5, (and that is being kind) really good places to eat. Sure we have some fantastic ethnic food but anything above the walk up window and you are kind of shit out of luck, but Denny’s and Subway?! Well with that illustrious group I guess Trader Joe’s wine selection being The Best makes perfect sense…lots of “medium” to choose from, and fer real cheap! I mean who gives a crap if it’s interesting, you can have 3 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, hash browns and a stack of air-filled tasteless flapjacks for like $5.00 or 6 bottles of wine for under $20.00….what more could you want? Um, more, lots more.

Wine doesn’t have to be expensive to taste good or please you, there are many fantastic wines under $10.00, from all over the world…the $5.00 and under category might be a bit tougher and I have to wonder how many people think they don’t really like or get wine because they are limiting themselves to the grocery store, (and let us not forget that is Trader Joe’s thing, they are a grocery store, one that had a rich wine past but opted instead to stock cheap wines or wholesaler closeouts. They do have some “finds” from time to time but the majority of what they stock is less than interesting and you are getting what you are paying for) and that $5.00 and under sweet spot. Five bucks is what you spend on coffee, chuck in a few more duckets and the QPR is upped dramatically.

Randy and Dale get a lot more wounded by those “Award” dealies and I don’t blame them, they have busted their asses, bled and lost sleep over that store of theirs…I have too but I think seeing those people come through the door every day, coming to the tasting and classes, sending us Christmas cards…all that amounts to a lot more than some pee stained newspaper award. I don’t want to be Denny’s, Subway or Trader Joe’s, I love being The Wine Country. I love our selection, I love our staff, our customers, turning people onto funky little wines that have enough going on to bring them back...even though we don’t have those little pop in the microwave brown rice things. Wonder if they have a “Created More Lifelong Wine Drinkers” award…that one I am sure we have a shot at!

The New Trend of Wedding Silk Invitation Boxes

Silk synonymous with luxury. Now silk is a good trend in the fashion world or the other. In fact, there are now designs wedding invitations with silk materials.

The times of sending a simple wedding invitation postcard to the whole family are over. More and more brides choose the exclusive way and order one of various invitation products including silk invitation boxes, silk pouches, folios and even silk envelopes.

Thai silk is one of the signature products from Thailand.
No question it suits just perfect to make exclusive wedding invitation boxes with pure Thai silk. There are no limits in creativity and extravaganza. For example embellished invitations with silk flowers or brooches with rhinestone crystals carefully ensembles on a padded silk envelope or silk pouches. My favorite is the rhinestone crystal rings with ribbon bands combined with a gatefold silk invitation box.

To plan a wedding invitation is truly a time-consuming process. Maybe because there are so many formats and possibilities the invitation box can be made in. Padded, not padded, embellished, simple, with or without flower arrangement and so on. It's all up to your time and budget.

Select the right material to meet your budget
Generally silk invitations are made with pure 100% silk or if your budget does not allow with Faux silk (artificial silk). Thai silk looks just so much more exclusive if you hold it against the light, but more and more brides choose the cheaper version of Faux silk invitations. No question, nobody wants to pay the debts of an expensive marriage until the silver wedding. Don't miss to contact me if you need support finding the right wedding favor, silk invitation box or wedding gifts.

Contact your invitation designer early to avoid delays
Thai silk invitations are hand made, so each item needs time to finish. If you place the order late, the manufacturer may not be able to manufacture high quality products. To get the best result, inquire 2 month before you actually need the invitation or wedding favor to arrive your home. This way you have around 4 weeks to discuss the design and look of your dream invitation box or silk invitation holder and the manufacturer has another 4 weeks to produce the order.

Silky Wedding Flowers

Marriage is one of the sacred and historic events in our lives. Of course before getting married a lot of things that must be prepared and considered.

When brides choose their wedding flowers, one question they must ask themselves is: do I want real flowers, or silk?

Traditional brides always go for real flowers. Their delicate beauty can never be duplicated by artificial flowers. The mesmerizing scent of roses or lilies is a far cry from the artificially scented silk flowers. Scent is often associated with feelings or memories and a wedding is an emotional and memorable experience. And that is where real flowers score over silk ones.

Real flowers have their disadvantages, too. The main disadvantage with real flowers is their longevity. They wilt away very fast. Brides who want to preserve their wedding bouquets often settle for silk flowers. Moreover, brides who want exotic or out-of-season wedding flowers often opt for silk flowers because they are much more readily available and affordable. Silk flowers are also popular with brides who are allergic to real ones. No bride wants to be red-eyed and sneezing at her wedding.

Silk flowers have advantages and disadvantages too. Although not the traditional choice, silk is fast becoming a popular option. Silk flowers look almost as natural as real flowers and brides don’t have to worry about the availability of their preferred choice. Silk flowers are also much more affordable. Preservation of real flowers is very expensive, but not with silk. They always look as good as new.

Thus, both real and silk flowers have their positive and negative points. It depends on the bride to choose between them, according to her priorities.

Sugar Sugar - The Quests Version - Singapore

From the Archives: A note from Unc Dicko today. I have asked to write about Sam Toh as guest blogger. I hope he responds positively. His note appears at the end of this posting.
One of Singapore's most distinctive bands in the 60s recorded Sugar Sugar in 1969 when the song was at the top of the pops.
The Quests with its new line-up of members, are, Reggie Verghese, Sam Toh, Wee Guan, Jap Chong and Peter Richards.
They pressed an EMI/Columbia EP ECHK 647 that included, Sugar, Sugar and He Ain't Heavy... on side one and Baby Make It Soon and Holiday on side two.
As with most bands then, they took advantage of the popularity of these songs and covered them. With their own distinctive sound and composition the Quests added more hits to their already large stable of goodies.

Archie 50s Comics Archies Sugar Sugar 69 Song

Like The Lone Ranger, Ozzie And Harriet, Superman and Batman, one of the blogger's cartoon favourites in the 50s was Archie (Andrews) with his crazy group, Reggie, Jughead and girls Betty and Veronica (image). The comics, which was very popular in Singapore, started in 1946 and was written by Vic Bloom and drawn by Bob Montana.
By 1969, as famous as the comic strip, the teen bubblegum pop band spin-off with the same name, The Archies, earned a gold record with Sugar, Sugar. It was a four-week 1969 number-one hit single by comic book characters.
Actually, the album is the product of a group of studio musicians with a director and vocals. Not only was it at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and eight weeks at the top of the UK singles chart, the song lists at number 63 on Billboard's Greatest Songs Of All Time.
In 1970, singer Wilson Pickett hit the U.S. Top Forty with his own version of the song. Bob Marley And The Wailers also released their version as a Jamaican only single. In the same year,Tom Jones included it on his album, Tom. In 1971 in the UK, a heavy version was recorded by Jonathan King (Everyone's Gone To The Moon) under the name Sakkarin. It reached number 12 in the UK singles chart.
Sugar, Sugar was on the same 1969 hit list with The Rolling Stones, Honky Tonk Woman, The Beatles, Hey Jude and Simon & Garfunkel's, Bridge Over Troubled Waters. And just as popular in Singapore, the song was on everyone's lips. "Oh, sugar, sugar, you are my candy girl..."
There are highbrows out there who think bubblegum music is childish, silly and even low class but if one looks at the alumni it shares, is bubblegum music to be so dismissed?

Going Bananas

I'm baking some banana bread right now so I have time to whip up a quick post! My reeeeally good friend Jill and her hubs just bought a house so I'm baking some banana bread as part of her housewarming present. I make a MEAN banana bread (secret ingredient: buttermilk *wink*).

Friday is usually Joe and my "date night" but we usually have to plan for him to be about falling asleep around 9:30pm! Ha! But tonight I made dinner at home and we spontaneously decided to take a drive afterwards with Boomer. I think he can die happy now ;-)

Are you looking for a good deal on table linens? I found a GREAT sale today at Dillards and I just have to share. A LOT of their table runners, tablecloths, placemats and cloth napkins were on sale + 40% off today. I think tables look kind of lonely when they're not set - so I got some goodies today. Joe called this my "table scape" (you have to watch Sandra Lee from the Cooking Network to get the joke). I gotta find some old silverware to put out now...

Those plates are just old English china I found at thrift stores and garage sales. Seriously, for a buck or two and I've got white china coming out of my ears!

We are going up "north" a couple hours to help Jill and Michael move. I can't wait to see their new nest! Don't you hate moving? Having friends help you makes it bearable.

Oh, and please watch this video. I love cool old people and I want to be like this when I'm old:

Grasses at Dusk

Little Tidbits: 8/28/09

  • Saw Inglourious Basterds last week...twice. This movie is spectacular! It stars Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the eponymous main characters, a group of Jewish-American soldiers against the Third Reich in Nazi-occupied France. Besides Pitt, other headliners include Melanie Laurent as Shosanna Dreyfuss, a French-Jewish girl whose family was killed in a very spectacular, tension-filled scene, at the beginning of the film. She forms a second storyline to the main conflict. And of course, my favorite character, one who has inspired the main villain in my own novel-in-progress, is Christoph Waltz as Han Landa, the Jew Hunter, a very intelligent, charismatic villain who earns his nickname. Waltz plays Landa as a cool customer, one who will lead you own, let you get enough rope to hang yourself. While this movie was awesome, the only drawback was that the soundtrack is not as memorable as Tarentino's Kill Bill. Movie Grade: A.
  • I will become an online examiner soon, specializing in "B-films", writing about them. It's a paying gig, and I will be posting the link in a few days.
  • The Blackest Night is rocking DC Comics, and I'm enjoying it so far. However, my only worry at this point is that seeing love ones return issue after issue will get boring after a while. I'm collecting the main series, Green Lantern, and Green Lantern Corps. Nevertheless, I have faith in Geoff Johns, the man whose brought awesome comic sagas like Infinite Crisis and Legion of Three Worlds.
  • World's Most Wanted in Invincible Ironman is rocking as well! Confronted by Madame Masque last ish, Tony escapes with the help of Pepper Potts, who stays behind to fight Masque. Meanwhile, Maria Hill, almost driven mad by the Controller, hides out in Natasha Romanov's/Black Widow's apartment, needing to get Tony's files to someone...i forget. Speaking of Natasha, comic continuity is a funny thing, as she's dealing with Maria in Ironman, and then captured by Norman Osborn, along with Captain America Bucky Barnes, in Captain America: Reborn #2.
  • Started watching Code Geass last week. I'm on episode 5...awesome story so far. In this anime, in an alternate history, Japan was conquered by Britian, and redubbed Area 11. Lelouch, the main character, a student, becomes embroiled in an underground resistance against the ruling Britannia when he, through a series of mishaps, finds a green-haired girl who grants him a unique and vital power: the ability to control minds. Great stuff.
  • Wow, both Halloween II and The Final Destination...in the same weekend? I shutter at both titles. I think Rob Zombie should have called his movie H2, as imo, there is already a Halloween II, with Jamie Leigh Curtis. And THE Final Destination? What is this, FAST AND FURIOUS again? I'm sure both will deliver the goods...unlike that horrible Prom Night.
  • Heroes and Smallville start in September. I'm not looking forward to Smallville, as I see no point in continuing it; it has overstayed its welcome, worn out the guest bed, messed up the kitchen, and asked for seconds. The credibility of Clark not flying, not being Superman is past the breaking point now...last season essentially introduced most of the pieces of the classic status quo...Lois Lane and him working at the Daily Planet, disguised as a reporter, based in Metropolis...only missing thing is Perry, a pair of glasses, the outfit, and flying! Season Nine SHOULD be the last season of the show. As for Heroes...the last season finale went down a few dozens of points because of the lack of superhero showdown. What's the point of having a show about individuals with POWERS if you're not going to show them?! That's like having a show about space and spaceships, but the main characters are always in the kitchen. I was also frustrated at how the villains were always jobbed or made inefficent...Danko and his government soldiers were nothing more than Putties, often treated like a joke. Arthur Petralli, the most powerful villain introduced so far...jobbed by a bullet. While I enjoy Sylar very much, I wouldn't mind seeing some other prominant villains stay around for a while...also wouldn't mind seeing some Web characters, like Santiago, introduced...as well as bringing back a few of the old characters...like Molly Walker.

Quick Illamasqua update

Just thought I'd tell you about a little experiment I conducted last night.
I applied some of my new Obey lipstick at about 5pm. Between 5pm and bedtime at 11pm, I ate a meal, had two cups of tea, a can of Diet Coke... and chatted like there was no tomorrow. When I was taking my make-up off before bed, the lipstick was STILL THERE! Yep... you read right. It lasted 6 hours with no sign of shifting. It had faded a little, but not enough to warrant re-application.
So... purely for experimental purposes (and I know it's gross and I shouldn't have, but...) I left it on for bed. I woke up this morning at 7ish, and guess what? Still there. Albeit it had faded significantly, but it was still there. For it to be there at bedtime is impressive, but to last through a 9 hour sleep aswell? That's outstanding. I literally had to scrub it off this morning, plus, my lips don't feel dried out like you'd expect from a matte lipstick - they still feel soft and moisturised. No pictures I'm afraid as it was a quick, gross, off-the-cuff experiment, but I can't rave enough about these lipsticks!
Please, please PLEASE get your butt down to your nearest Illamasqua counter. You won't regret it, I promise x
