Things I learned through January 2011

Yo dudettes. Can you believe that we're one month into 2011 already? I bloody hate January so I'm glad it's over! Here is what I've learned :)


1. I might be spending too much time on Blogger if I'm spending many nights dreaming about attending weddings of certain bloggers.

2. Top knots don't suit me, despite being the simplest 'do ever.

3. My job might not be safe.

4. An eyebrow lift would cost me £150 with mates rates. Woo!

5. Damn You Autocorrect is hilarious! I still haven't got used to texting with my iPhone, and often type 'Love you lots like jelly tits' instead of 'jelly tots', so although I think some of them on this website are staged, I can relate!

6. Sophie Kinsella doesn't exist. She's actually a lady called Madeline Wickham.

7. Couch to 5k is the best fitness app ever.

8. Vince Vaughan is a hottie.

9. Not all secrets are bad. With the right person, a secret can be very special. Ooh cryptic...

10. Sometimes, it's better the devil you know.

11. Portion size and control is imperative to healthy eating. Sounds simple enough but it's literally only just twigged.

12. Wearing dangly earrings with an 18 month old around is lethal.

13. The hair colour that suits me the bestest is Perfect 10 Medium Ash Blonde. It's taken me a few goes but I've finally found the nicest one.

14. L'Oreal Voluminous with the grey tube is better than the L'Oreal Voluminous with the black tube, even though the black tube one says it's 5x more voluminous lashes compared to the 4x of the grey.

15. A single McDonald's meal can rack up 1500 calories. Shocking!

16. You are not a person to your employer. You are just a number.

17. The UK's Biggest Loser isn't as intense as the US version. The trainers are nowhere near as scary as Jillian Michaels!

18. I don't think I'll ever be 100% happy with my blog layout.

19. Asda is loads cheaper than Tesco. How unfortunate that I don't like Asda's fruit, vegetables or meat.

20. Weightloss won't happen overnight, sadly...

21. ...Unless you're Mr L. It's really annoying to see the weight just dropping off him (as opposed to dropping off me!) but I am incredibly proud of him. He's got a yum bum ;)

22. I'm indecisive about everything.

23. And I hate change.

24. People falling over is the funniest thing in the world to me. Even when I'm in agony on the floor after falling over myself, I manage to laugh.

25. Some people are really spiteful and nasty, with too much time on their hands, as demonstrated recently when some dickhead took the time to create a fake profile, just to send me abusive messages. I just deleted them, but really, it baffles me. We're grown ups now for goodness sake. Think I know who it is now too, since I have a spiteful and nasty colleague.

26. So I also learned how to change my privacy settings on FB.

27. My aim of being more happy and positive was maybe a little too optimistic for me. I am trying though!

28. Bathing in milk is actually not as gross as it sounds.

29. I love the T-Mobile adverts.

30. For the time being, my job is safe again.

31. Erm... I wasn't going to post this one but it might be 'helpful' to some of you. If you are planning on partaking in a bit of bum fun, you shouldn't eat sweetcorn. Because it doesn't get digested, it kind of just sits in your gut waiting to be pooped out... Apparently it can get stuck in the penis and cause infection. Nice. We were discussing colonic irrigation in work which developed into a conversation about things up bums...

My Review

  I was sent a package of Sticky Bellies to review. First off this product is just genius! I wish I had these when my daughter was little...but I am so grateful that I have them now with my son! Sticky Bellies are so easy to use...peel, stick to any piece of clothing, photograph, then throw away or keep! Its so fun to document my sons growth using these stickers...now every month I will have a new picture of him. When 12 Months are up I plan to frame each picture side by side...just think of all the fun things you can do with the photos you take! Scrapbook, frame them, send them via email, or post them on facebook! Sticky Bellies is a great way to keep grandparents or family that live far away up to date with your little ones growth! So fun! Rocky road Crunch bars

INGREDIENTS

• 
• 

• 125g soft butter
• 300g best-quality dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids), broken into pieces
• 3 x 15ml tablespoons golden syrup
• 200g Rich Tea biscuits
• 100g mini marshmallows
• 2 teaspoons icing sugar for dusting

METHOD

1. Melt the butter, chocolate and golden syrup in a heavy-based saucepan. Scoop out about 125ml of this melted mixture and put to one side.
2. Put the biscuits into a freezer bag and then bash them with a rolling pin. You are aiming for both crumbs and pieces of biscuits.
3. Fold the biscuit pieces and crumbs into the melted chocolate mixture in the saucepan, and then add the marshmallows.
4. Tip into a foil tray (24cm square); flatten as best you can with a spatula. Pour the reserved 125ml of melted chocolate mixture over the marshmallow mixture and smooth the top.
5. Refrigerate for about 2 hours or overnight.
6. Cut into 24 fingers and dust with icing sugar by pushing it gently through a tea strainer or small sieve.

Serves: Makes 24

Shades Of Kung Fu Chinatown Rock: Chinese New Year 1979: The X'periment! Living In The Past?

Ang Pow:

Well, here it is, my own copy of Chinatown Rock (images:3,4) by X'periment. It's my ang-pow (red-packet) or Chinese New Year gift for everyone. I googled for the covers but couldn't find the images. I guess this record is going into extinction, so if you have a copy, keep it. The songs are gem-stones today.

Mervyn Nonis:

It is a Singapore WEA (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic) record pressed in 1979. Eight of the songs are originals by Mervyn Nonis and the Xperiment. It is produced and engineered by Stephen Israel and Lim Gek San.

K.V. John:

Personal Manager is K.V. John, who was a great compere in the 60s and 70s with his Spot Dances and Musical Chairs. John was also a comic on stage with a very pleasant personality. Does anyone know where he is now?

Emma Would Eat That

It seems my family can't agree on what to eat during the Super Bowl. I suggested peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because they fit in the theme of Glee since Emma eats those. Then I thought of 2 other things to make grilled cheese sandwiches (preferably with a religious figure on them). I could also serve Cheerios cereal, but I don't like the plain kind. I like the honey nut ones. That really sounds like a menu for a preschooler or something. I can have wine coolers too Puck got Quinn drunk on those (mentioned in Preggers)

I don't want to make anything too hard since I'm a bad cook. I was also trying to go with some food that had to do with the different cities playing. I had lots of ideas for Green Bay, but I could not come up with a food for Pittsburgh. I was thinking cheese steak, but then I remembered that is Philly. I have a good idea for some neutral treats serve yellow colored things like candies, cookies and cupcakes. Both teams wear yellow.

Tips mengangkat komedo

Komedo adalah Kotoran penyumbat pori-pori ini berbentuk kecil, berwarna hitam atau putih. Dengan komedo, wajah halus terlihat kotor dan kusam. Komedo muncul akibat terjadinya penumpukan minyak berlebih (sebum), serta sel kulit mati. Saat membersihkan wajah, komedo sering terabaikan.
Mungkin masalah yang satu ini semua orang pasti pernah mengalaminya. Saya akan memberikan sedikit tips cara menghilangkan komedo

1. Gunakan putih telur
* Ambil sedikit putih telur, tempatkan di wadah, kocok hingga berbusa. Oleskan di sekitar hidung atau bagian wajah yang berkomedo. Tutup dengan tisu. Biarkan hingga benar-benar kering. Lepaskan tisu secara perlahan. Di bagian dalam tisu, akan terlihat bintik-bintik komedo yang terangkat.

2. Scrub sayur dan masker kacang
* Blender selembar daun kailan, selembar daun seledri, ¼ buah apel, campur dengan perasan jeruk lemon. Usapkan dan pijat lembut wajah dengan scrub sayur ini, lalu bilas.
* Uapi wajah dengan air panas yang telah diberi 1 sdm garam. Biarkan 10 menit. Uap air garam akan membuka pori-pori, memperlebar pembuluh darah kapiler di bawah kulit dan memperlancar peredarah darah ke kulit.

* Campur sari kacang kedelai dan kacang polong, gunakan sebagai masker, diamkan 30 menit, bilas. Gunakan beberapa kali.

Lokananta Studio: Indonesia's Abbey Road: 4th Asian Games Souvenir Vinyls Feature Moluccas Songs

While I was posting the last few articles about Jimmy Linchong and a song from the Moluccas, I remember my few pieces of 10-inch Long Play records that I have, pressed by the famous Lokananta (literal: heavenly gamelan without drums) label. They are precious and not easily available in the market. And as I rummaged again feverishly through my cupboard I found four. One of them (image 2) contains the song Ajo Mama (j is pronounced yerh in Indonesian).

According to a website (internet address below), the Lokananta studio (image 1,2) in Indonesia is as famous as the one in Abbey Road, Westminster, London. It is the first Indonesian music label, founded in Solo, Central Java. Since its inception, Lokananta has been producing and duplicating records and audio cassette tapes.

When it started in 1958, the records were marketed through the RRI (Republic Rayat Indonesia). As the label reached its state enterprise status, the company activities included: administering, recording, broadcasting, printing and publishing.

Lokananta has thousands of songs from all over Indonesia in its treasure trove and its vast collection encompasses folk, ethnic, world and pop music. So there is keroncong, Javanese gamelan, Balinese, Sundanese, Batak (North Sumatra) and other regional music.

This vast music collection includes many recordings of famous singers from Indonesia. Master tracks in the studio contain songs from legendary composers and singers like Gesang, Waljinah, Titiek Puspa, Bing Slamet, and Sam Saimun. Lokananta has more than 5,000 such track recordings of local songs. Besides songs, state speeches of the late President Sukarno are kept.

Aside: Controversies abound regarding the well-known song Rasasayange. According to the same web-site, this song, together with other Indonesian folk songs, can be found on a single master-track in the Lokananta studios. It is claimed by a certain country as its original folk song but is actually an original from the Moluccas.

Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your weekend! I can't believe how cold it is. The sun is beaming but it's very deceptive - it's still Winter out there!

♥ I have a fringe. Again. It was a spur of the moment decision on Thursday. I had the scissors in my hands trimming my eyebrows and just thought... 'Yes, I want a fringe'. So I chopped it. I then had the urge to start hacking away at my hair to give myself some layers, but didn't have enough time or patience. I think I will at some point though. If Zoe and Amy can do it with gorgeous results, I'm sure I can too!

♥ I am loving TV this week - The return of Skins, pure trashy telly Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, and hilarious Big Bang Theory, not to mention America's Next Top Model, Biggest Loser UK & US, and Dancing On Ice. It's been lush cwtching up with Mr L watching them.

♥ There's still a weird atmosphere in work but it looks like my job is safe for the time being. We have a new manager starting soon which is making everybody really stressed and apprehensive, but I'm glad as it means everything is a bit more stable now. Phew!

♥ I am still nursing the aching knee that I mentioned in last week's summary, but my other knee is bruised like hell too. My Mam and I are like children, so almost everyday I pick her up and swing her round like I would a little child. I did this last Monday, and she swung her legs about like she usually does, but when I went to put her back down, she was still swinging her legs. I had let her go, but immediately realised she was going to fall on her face, so I grabbed her tightly again but by this point it was too late - we were both on our way down. My mother is half the size of me so not only was she about to face plant the floor, she was going to have me flatten her when I landed on top! Luckily, she managed to get her arms out to save herself, and I kind of fell to the side, bruising all down the left side of my body in the process. Ouch! It was hilarious but we are suffering now. It kind of happened in slow motion, so my thoughts went from "Shit, she's falling on her face!", to "OMG I've broken her nose", to "Oh fuck, I'm falling", to "Uh oh I'm going to flatten her", and finally "Hahahahahahahahahahaha Owwwwww Hahahahaha Owwwwww HaHaOW!!!"

♥ Listening to: Adele, Adele and more Adele. To be specific I have been listening to her live lounge special on the Radio 1 website. She has such an amazing voice that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. She gave me tingles all over when I heard the radio show on Thursday - she is purely phenomenal. Someone Like You is just gorgeous. I've always been a fan but after this, I adore her.
