Be British for a Day...

I have always had a fond love for everything {well almost everything} British since I can remember. Many of my friends are British and I get such a kick out of hearing about their food, slangs, and traditions. I was lucky enough to visit England twice and I had a ball! The history, the beauty of their country, the royalty, the castles,... I thought I would do a fun little post about British words, British food, and some other UK tid-bits to help you celebrate our friends across the pond {or if your heading that way soon you may just pick up some fun tips!}.

British Food
Okay heads up...British Soda, Chocolate, Ice cream, Potato Chips, etc. all tastes different from the items we have here in the States. I have noticed that most British food items are less sugary and the soda is more carbonated. If you are a Ranch lover you better pack a nice big bottle of it in your suitcase because Ranch dressing is not available in the United Kingdom {I couldn't find any and my British friends also confirmed this}.  Here are a few food items you should try {or not try} while in the UK.

Aero Bars-Aerated Chocolate Bars
Basically these Chocolates are filled with air bubbles...this gives the chocolate bar a unique texture that is airy and delicious! Aero Bars come in a variety of flavors; Mint, White Chocolate, Caramel, and many others.
HP Sauce
This is the UK's A1 Sauce. Its Sweet, Tangy, and quite unique.
Marmite
Don't touch this stuff. Take my word for it...its nasty!
Fish and Chips
"Traditional" UK food. All of the fish and chips I had while in England weren't that great. The fish I tried still had its scales on it...uh, no thanks.
Hob Nobs
Oat Biscuit {cookie} covered in chocolate. Pretty tasty snacks.
Magnums
Magnums are Ice Cream bars that look a lot like Dove Bars but Magnums are SO much better. Magnums are available throughout Europe and come in a variety of flavors. When I was in England I had a Triple Chocolate Magnum and I don't even want to admit how many of them I devoured.
Jelly Babies
Sugary, Sugary, Sugary, gummy like treats. Really Sugary...did I mention that?!
Flake-Chocolate Bars
Flake Bars are flaky Milk Chocolate bars. Good but messy.
Beans on Toast
My Sisters lived off of Beans and Toast for a few weeks {since they didn't like British food}. British Beans are made by Heinz {in blue cans} and are delicious. Most little restaurants will serve this dish by buttering some toast and then spooning the Heinz Beans over the toast. Sounds kind of revolting but take my word for it...its quite yummy!
Coronation Chicken
Chicken in a delicious Curry Sauce. Yum!
Ribena
A delicious Black Currant juice beverage
Walkers Crisps
Yummy Potato Chips in a wide variety of flavors {flavors you've never even heard of in the states} such as:
Roasted Chicken, Prawn Cocktail, Marmite {EW!}, Worcester, Pickled Onion, Beef and Onion,

British Words/Slang

Bobbie-Police Officer
Knackered-Worn out
Wanker-Not a nice word, just don't say it.
