I've avoided this tag for quite a while because I believed that I loved everything I owned. I sorted through my stash recently and stumbled across some things that I do like, but don't believe them to be as amazing as people make out. It was only when I uploaded the pictures that I realised that everything I picked was by MAC, which was surprising since I consider MAC to be my favourite brand. It just proves that different things work for different people, and not every product that MAC releases is amazing!
MAC Angel Lipstick
Ask anyone for a recommendation on which MAC lipstick to get, and they'll tell you Angel. It's easy to see why, I mean, it's a soft, unoffensive pink that would look great with both neutral looks and dramatic looks. However, what lets this down for me is the formula. It's a frost but I find it to be really drying on my lips like a matte, and despite the colour being pretty I don't reach for it. Instead I wear and adore it's creamsheen sister - Creme Cup. Same colour, same tone, better formula. Creme Cup doesn't get enough love in my opinion, and if you think Angel is overhyped, please try Creme Cup. It's gorgeously creamy, smooth, moisturising, and makes my lips look plumper. I love it. Be warned though, Creme Cup is similar to Creme d'Nude in the way it's all melty and easy to break.
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Good black gel eyeliner? Yes. Best black eyeliner ever? No way! I'm not overly keen on black eyeliner on me, but on the rare occasion where I do decide to wear it, I use MAC's Feline instead. It's a more intense black, and once set with some powder lasts all day. Blacktrack is a good product, it's just not as 'WOW!' as I was expecting. It's just a plain black gel eyeliner, which is available from many, many different brands.
MAC Carbon Eyeshadow
I feel the same way about this eyeshadow as I do about Blacktrack - just a very basic product that does the job. It has nothing special to make it stand out from any other brands, and a plain, matte black from any other brand does the job just as well, whether it's from higher end brands like Urban Decay (Zero) or lower end brands like Sleek (all of their palette's have a great matte black!)
MAC Naked Honey Skin Salve
I love honey and I love honey scented things, but since I bought this last summer I've used it probably five times. At the most. You can see how little I've used it in the picture. I bought this because the now-extinct MagpieSparkles absolutely raved about it on YT, and said how versatile it was. Yes, I can use it on my feet, lips, cuticles, dry elbows etc, and it does smell really good, but honestly? It's just a glorified Vaseline with a £13 price tag.
MAC Ripe Peach Blush Ombre
Now, I'm probably going to get shot down in flames for this one, but what's the fuss? It is certainly a pretty blush and I do love the two toned effect so I can control and vary the colour to suit my mood and look, but it's definitely not the most amazing peach blush in the whole wide world full stop**. It's lovely and I'm glad I've got it, but it's more unique in the pan than on my cheeks.
** MAC's Peachykeen blush wins that award for me if you were wondering!
MAC 187 Brush
Excuse the dirty bristles! I only have the travel size version of this brush, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but the only use I get out of it is to apply my MSF's. I don't find it gives me an airbrushed finish if I use it to apply my foundation, and it applies my blush too widely if that makes sense. I prefer something a little more precise like that 168 to apply blush, as the 187 places colour all over my cheeks, not just the apples. I still want to try the full sized one, but now I've had a chance to have a proper play about with this brush, I've realised it's definitely overhyped and isn't a must-have in my collection.
What are your overhyped products? Have I featured anything you agree/disagree with, or do you have any tips to make me love these products? Let me know in the comments!
xoxo
