Not Descriptive Enough?

I'm feeling better today after I realized that my MP3 player just had an "accidental trauma" and is working again! ^o^ ^-^

I'm feeling better today. I'm at anywhere between 70-81% but not 100.

I eventually managed to finish my short story I was writing. I still have another one I'm not done with yet. It's almost finished though. The funny thing is that I had my mom read over some of my stories and she says they are way too descriptive and fatty. I thought about it when I took a creative writing class back in 2006 my teacher use to tell me my writing was not descriptive enough. So I pad my writing. You know that if you read this blog. I was never a "meat and potatoes" writer. Could you just imagine what my articles would sound like if I was a sports writer? "His jersey was darkened with sweat. A bead of sweat dripped off his brow as he proceeded to make a free throw". Nobody would read that. It sounds like a bad basketball novel or something.

First Of May - Puppy Inspired Song, Not Labour

SONGS I LOVE:

The most appropriate song to feature today is one of Bee Gees' greatest hits, First Of May (lead vocals Barry Gibb). No, it's not a protest song nor one about Labour Day but with its symbolic and poety like lyrics, Barry Gibb wrote it for his dog's birthday. Argghh!

This 1969 doggie inspired melody was a minor hit but was noticed after it featured in the soundtrack of a British film about puppy love called Melody (1971). It has a place in the annals of American pop and been covered by Matt Monroe, Jose Feliciano and Sarah Brightman. Strange, I always thought the song was more about growing up:

"When I was small and Christmas trees were tall... Don't ask me why but time has passed us by... Now we are tall and Christmas trees are small... But you and I, our love will never die... The day I kissed your cheek and you were mine."

Don't confuse the Bee Gees' version with another one that has the same title.

A video on You Tube features Maurice Gibb and Lulu (To Sir With Love, Scottish pop star, married to Gibb from '69 to '73, his first wife). Maurice Gibb has since passed away in January, 2003.

Theo Chocolate Review

Chocolate Lovers Unite...

Theo Chocolate makes Willy Wonka look bad...real bad.

Theo Chocolate produces premium organic and Fair Trade specialty chocolate. Theo's Founder, Joseph Whinney, pioneered the supply of organic cocoa beans into the United States in 1994. Mr. Whinney always dreamt of building the first organic chocolate factory in the US, as prior to Theo’s inaugural chocolate run in March of 2006, all organic chocolate was manufactured in Europe and imported into the US market. As the first and only organic and Fair Trade chocolate factory in the country, all of Theo's ingredients are carefully screened to ensure they meet their standards for social and environmental responsibility. Theo’s standards and practices include:

  • Using only pure ingredients that are grown sustainably. They source their ingredients locally whenever possible.
  • Partnering with their growers by ensuring they earn a living wage and have access to education for their families.
  • Honoring and respecting their employees and suppliers. This is possible due to the unique fact that they control every step of our their manufacturing process.
  • Using green energy sources to power their factory.
  • Using sustainable packaging and printing methods.
  • Educating about social and environmental accountability 7 days a week through public tours of their artisan factory.
Theo Chocolate sent me Pink Salted Vanilla Caramels in Dark Chocolate, Organic Milk Chocolate Bar {45% Cacao}, and Organic Fair Trade Cherry and Almond Dark Chocolate Bar {70% Cacao} to review. The first thing I noticed and loved about these Chocolates was the packaging. Theo Chocolate's Packaging is sleek, modern, and beautiful. Here is a breakdown of each product and what I thought of it:

Pink Salted Vanilla Caramels in Dark Chocolate
These beautiful and delicious caramels are gluten and soy free and have been sprinkled with pink Himalayan sea salt. The sea salt combined with the sweetness of the chocolate and vanilla leaves you with a unique taste of heaven in your mouth. The crunch of the sea salt and the smooth buttery caramel leaves you wanting more long before you have finished your last bite.

Organic Milk Chocolate Bar {45% Cacao}
This Milk Chocolate Bar is rich, smooth, and sweet. A delicious bar on its own or melted in a cup of warm milk for a special treat! Proceeds from the sale of this chocolate bar will benefit cocoa farmers, promote conservation in the tropical rain-forest and directly contribute to the Jane Goodall Institute’s efforts to save chimpanzees, develop community centered conservation efforts and direct youth education programs around the world.

Organic Fair Trade Cherry and Almond Dark Chocolate Bar {70% Cacao}
Cherry and Almond united into one delectable chocolaty bite...pure bliss. I kept on trying to put this Chocolate bar down but it just wasn't happening...The Cherries are sweet with a bite of tartness and the Almonds give the bar a bit of crunch, this bar is a decadent treat that you won't forget!

So, if you love sweets I highly recommend Theo Chocolate
...I promise one bite won't be enough!

The company did send me a product or service for review. This in no way has affected my opinion of the product or service.
This review is my opinion.

Unanswered question for April 2010

Every month, there is over a dozen question asked by my reader about coin, banknote, collection, item price and accessories that related to numismatic world. I cannot answer some of the question because I cannot find any information about it. I am sharing it in here for anyone to give answer for that question. Just make sure you don't spam me with unrelated link. I am editing some of this question to make sure it is relevant to this blog. Keep on giving me question to lunaticg@gmail.com. I will try to answered them.

Photo by Wikipedia: Japanese invasion money.

This month, only one unanswered question for April 2010. Navin asked me about Japanese propaganda money. I am not collecting this kind of banknote because I don't have enough information about them. I too want to know if there is any good books that will help me to understand this notes better. The Japanese dollar was one of several forms of Japanese invasion money issued throughout the then newly expanded Empire of Japan. Similar currencies were issued in Japanese-occupied Burma (as the Japanese rupee), the Dutch East Indies (as the Japanese guilder) and the Philippines (as the Japanese peso). Almost all of the notes contained the text (The Japanese Government “Promise To Pay The Bearer On Demand”).

Navin also asked about Malaysia specimen banknote. I know some of you are collector of this banknote, please share your information in here.

Question by Navin:

Hi,

I am currently doing some research on the Japanese propaganda banknotes. I have book written by Wong from Singapore as a reference for the time being. I have been also searching for this banknotes for some time but its not easy to find...Since you are more longer/experience in this field, i have some questions as below :

a) I only know the Japanese banknote $5, $10 , $100 and $ 1000 over printed as VJ victory is genuine although there are some fake ones. Do you know other type of over printing ( other stamp marks ) which is also genuine ( probably during communist time ? ) I have seen some Japanese banknotes over printed in different stamps in the Internet but not sure its genuine...

b) Probably i am not finding the notes in correct way....Do you think these VJ printing, banknotes with calendar of 1945 and 'Wang Jepun akan mati sama Jepun' is easy to find in market? Is the price stated in KN Boon or Steven Tan book is reasonable or too low?

c) Do you have some books which i can have as a reference regarding this banknotes?

d) Do you have these banknotes or you know other people who wanted to sell this banknotes?

e) Besides that, for Malaysian specimen banknotes, we dont have a price reference....Is it a buyer willingness or you have some price reference?

PARK DESIGN HOUSE Minimalist

Minimalist garden design

How minimalist design for the home garden?
Park home owners increasingly become the status symbol. Mix & match style house with a garden can produce a unique look and increasingly reflects the owner.

At present, the park houses not only as a mere supplement, but it's getting just as important as architecture and interiors. Even for some people has become a symbol of prestige. The better someone's home garden arrangement, reflecting the social class of owners.

Park in your house. Same personal with home design. It is expected that the design reflects not only personal but also supports the home owner activity and the needs of residents of the space. From the head of the family, wife to the kids.

For example, one of the lifestyle trend now is to hold a garden party with a barbeque in the evening or late afternoon. Of course, we will gladly run this program when we garden with good design, especially at night.

If we have children who are active. Obviously need a roomy place to play. Garden elements such as swings and play ground equipment that other children can we match the garden design.

Certainly many aspects that must be taken into account in designing the park. Although we do get help from the landscaper, still we must pay attention to the important aspects in the design of the park, namely: expansion of existing parks, activities shall be accommodated in the park, the harmony of gardens with buildings.

Like architecture, garden design known in a variety of gardens. What is the type of garden? There are various types of parks are generally known. Distinguished by the cultural background and geographical origin of the development of the park. Differences in composition and animating characters that used the park.

There are so many types of garden that a traditional cultural background and geographical. There's Japanese garden, china garden, garden french, American, English, tropical Bali, a tropical Thailand and Japan, there is a growing garden suitable times, such as garden modern, minimalist and dry garden. Each type reflects a strong character and have different effects lover.

That one architectural style developed today are minimalist. This style emerged after World War II. Nowhere on Those days lots of people's houses destroyed by the war so That the government make a home in modular form (Standard and Poor 'in Aceh now), WHO is easy and cheap workmanship but still with the design well. Key features of this building is a simple form, without ornament and emphasis on function space.

Simple and without ornament is suitable to the spirit and lifestyle during this period. Simple and emphasis on function. Unfortunately in Indonesia, this minimalist style so expensive because it is not made of modules that are available and must be custom made.

Distinctive minimalist building is at least ornament and color who tend to be styled 'industry' is a white, gray and black.

Houses do not have minimalism minimalist garden as well. Mix & match (solid-match) of the various garden-style residential homes can make you look more stylish.

April 2010 favourites

April is over, which means Summer is getting that little bit closer everyday - yay! Here's what I've been enjoying this month:

MACLipglass - English Accents
I've been loving this when I fancy the pigment of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss. It's pigmented enough to be worn alone but it can be layered over lipsticks too, without overpowering them. Even worn over a nude it allows the nude colour to shine through. It's a super pretty lipgloss.

Barry M Dazzledust - 3 Pink Gold
This colour is such a pretty, unique colour that I think everyone should own it. The pink and gold combined make a pretty pinky-coral colour, and I've been loving wearing this in the sunshine. It has just the right amount of shimmer and lasts really well with a good, sticky base. It works well with golds, pink, purples and bronzes, so you can create a multitude of looks with this little beauty. I've had it for a while but have never appreciated it's beauty until now. This looks great on lips with a bit of clear gloss over the top too.

MAC Lipstick - Victorian
The warmer weather has called for a brighter lip, and I've been loving this beautiful pinky-coral colour from MAC's Spring Forecast collection. It is a frost finish, so has a gorgeous golden sheen to it, which looks beautiful in the sunshine. It'll look better once I've tanned, but a light application of it looked just as pretty on my pale skin.

MAC Pearlglide Eyeliner - Industrial / Undercurrent / Designer Purple
I absolutely adore these eyeliners. I think MAC should make them permanent! They're so creamy and pigmented, and give a gorgeous sheen without being OTT. They've been released twice previously, but I have never indulged. I think that's my biggest make up regret to date.

Original Source Shea Butter and Honey Shower Gel
Project Bathroom has meant that I can't buy any new bath and shower products, so I've taken to rummaging in my Mam's bathroom for some goodies. I found this a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in love. It's got a delicious honey scent, but it also has a hint of coconut about it. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh, and because I use it with exfoliating gloves my skin is so smooth and soft afterwards. Sorry Mam, but you're not getting this baby back!

What are your April favourites?

xoxo

What A Difference A Year Makes

I got into work the other morning and began my ritual of checking my email box, (the work one) my actual mail box, walking my departments and seeing what has sold or needs to be merchandised after being off for three days. Went through the special orders, checked the signups for the upcoming classes and started to settle in to being back at work. I have a somewhat revolving schedule that goes something like; five days on, one off and back in for five then off for three…kind of drives me nutty and that third day really makes me edgy. I trust my staff completely but I just feel like there is shit I could be and should be doing besides sitting on my couch watching Law & Order or movies. Okay a little side note, I did watch It’s Complicated Tuesday…dude, awesome. That movie was one of the best I have seen in a long time….great dialog and chemistry, cooking, sex, falling in and out of love. The very real connection between people that have loved, shared a life, raised kids…life, real life. Like I said, awesome.

I was just getting into my groove when Randy came in and started talking to me about how we can generate new business. I always get a knot in my gut with these conversations, I so want the store to thrive and I literally lose sleep trying to think of ways to make that happen. Fuck I even stated this silly blog hoping that I would be able to reach people, touch them and inspire them to come see us at The Wine Country. I’ve put my whole life, the good and the bad…my whole heart into sharing myself here in this space in the hope that people would feel my passion for wine, my whole hearted love for it…how it was able to change me. Exposed myself in order to create a connection, I have not that much to give, just me, my stories and my connection to wine. What I’ve learned, how wine has found a way to touch every inch of my flesh, how it speaks to me, whispers to me….purrs at me and pushes me. The way it seduces me, is always in my head and my heart…

My late night rants and ramblings are my cricket’s song….me rubbing my legs together, stringing my words together trying to weave a tapestry intriguing enough for people to begin rubbing their own legs together…start chirping and paint their own story with wine. My biggest hope is that they let our store be a part of it, think of us when they think about wine and all its glorious pleasures.

“You always have something creative to say on your blog, I just wish we could figure out a way to channel some of that to strum up some excitement here in the shop” Randy said as we were tossing ideas back and forth…I was momentarily speechless. Randy and I have had our disagreements about this blog, he is not a blog guy and for the most part sees them as a giant waste of time. Matter of fact a year ago even saying the word blog induced and almost gag-looking face for him…like he was trying to say it but the sheer ridiculousness of it all caused his face to screw all up. He started coming around a bit a few months ago and seems to read, (from what I can tell) fairly regularly now. We used to kind of bicker about it, me proclaiming it an important tool while secretly being crushed that he didn’t see that I spent my nights writing and spilling my guts, trying to be funny or at the very least interesting…for him, for the store. He concerned that I was spending all this time and energy for nothing. “Aside from giving us more exposure”….don’t even need to finish the rest of his sentence, he was acknowledging the fact that my hours of work and nakedness had in fact done something. What a difference a year makes.

We hashed out some ideas and I started an email blast about 2007 Burgundy. A vintage I went weak in the knees for the second I tasted my first little Bourgogne and one that has the press now taking a second look at. I harvested information from the “pros” and we put together a rather exciting lineup of wines to blast our customers with. I was feeling kind of driven and focused and that is when I saw him.

We have quite a few handicapped customers at The Wine Country, people that come in and need our help filling their glass, taking their credit cards from their wallets and even one customer that requires a bendy straw in order to sip his wine. These things touch me, to have a person that has been through whatever trauma that is courageous enough to have us bendy their straw, carry their case out or dig into their personal belongings to retrieve their credit card…well I admire that kind of openness and fearlessness. I envy it in a way.

I watched as he limped in rather uncomfortably, legs wobbly, leaning heavily on the cane at his left side. I was going about my business, pricing wines, calling reps, ringing up other customers but I kept my eye on him. Baggy Dockers, cane, sweater, awkward lean. I did my thing, working as always but this cane using, sweater clad figure with the tall man assisting him were in my peripheral. He seemed to be having his needs met, staff running to retrieve wines he wanted and him taking his time navigating the sales floor with a shopping cart.

I found myself watching him, the way he slowly shifted the hearty bar on the cart. The way he seemed to will his legs to power that cart. I was admiring him from afar, proud if his strength, his drive and just when I thought I could not be more moved he swung his cart around. Cane dangling on the side, tall assistant at the ready but not interfering, a face looking back at me. Eyes I had seen many times before but encased in a body that was not the one I had last seen him in.

“Credit or Debit?” I asked in my lightest most friendly voice. “Um, it’s been so long since I have answered that question I’m not sure what to say” he responded. I felt my throat get thick and I felt my eyes locked on his. “I came for some Rose. I love coming here for Rose” he said as he watched me grip the neck of his gathered bottles and drop them in a box. I laid the credit card receipt on the counter and pushed a pen closer to his fragile frame. I watched as he used his left arm to lift his right hand…the one with the curled under fingers and unnatural arch and marveled in the way he was able to rest that unwilling limb atop the receipt and sign his name with his left hand.

A stroke, one year ago this maybe fifty year old violin repairman had a massive stroke that has had him in physical therapy every single day for a year. This man spent a year re-learning how to talk, walk, brush his teeth and stand and here he was, visiting The Wine Country and buying Rose. A connection. His body may not be as able as it once was but his memory of shopping at our store for Rose was vivid and powerful enough to bring him back. “It is so nice to see you again” I said as I handed over his receipts and pushed his box of wine in the direction of his helper. “Nice to be seen” he said with a smile and slowly made his way out the door. I watched as Randy chatted with him out by his car and before I knew it I was crying. Not sad for such a strong and courageous soul, no I was touched that coming to see us was something that he wanted to do.

Vintage, watching this whole thing made me think about vintage and what it really means. One year. So much can happen in the span of a year, the good the bad, the heartfelt and the humbling and all of that becomes part of who we are. How one year can change us, add layers to the already complex creatures that we are. Each vintage leaving it little “I was here” mark on each of us. It’s the same with wine really and I for one happen to find comfort in the connection to a wine through its expression of a vintage. When tasting a 2003 Burgundy, the somewhat forced ripeness, the super soft acidity, the clumsy chunkiness of it, I am reminded of record breaking heat waves and watching footage of Europeans dipping into historic fountains to relieve themselves from the oppressive heat….tasting a wine from that vintage paints a picture on my palate of what the vines had to endure and what a winemaker was able to make from that. Smoke taint from fires, overripe or under ripe fruit, hard tannin, soft acidity, plump or thin each vintage leaving its mark, its history and it is there for us to taste. I want wine to speak to me like that, share its story, its struggles or windfalls with me. Much like the way I wish to make people understand my passion for wine by retelling the story of the evening, the people or the lust that surrounded it. That’s why I have never gotten too caught up in the whole which vintage is better deal, why I don’t measure one against the other. Was year 34 better for me than year 38? Dunno, without that 34 I wouldn’t be this 38 and any attempt to place value on one above the other seems not only silly but really missing the beauty of discovery and expression.

Now I’m not saying I want to drink, (or want other people to drink for that matter) jacked up wines and when you follow producers rather than vintages the chances of that happening are slim. A great winemaker would sooner scrap a vintage, sell it off in bulk than dump a bunch of crap wine on the market with their name on it which is why I have always been much more producer driven than vintage driven. I like that I can taste subtle differences from vintage to vintage…even dramatic difference are thrilling for me. It’s all history, it’s all a story and for me it is a very real connection to a place, a winemaker and that one year. The next vintage will just be one more for me to read, feel, taste and connect with and I find myself grateful for that.

Grateful to the Francois Chidaines, Dominique Lafons, the Alix de Montilles…winemakers that aren’t trying to crank out some soulless, timeless, placeless “juice” they are pouring me a story, inviting me to taste what each year has given them, reaching me and adding my experience, each new experience as one more chapter in their history book…weather they know it or not.

One year ago I could not know that Randy would be proud of the work I have put into this blog and even start gathering bits of my stoopid ramblings to include in our newsletter…
One year ago I could not know that a loyal customer would suffer as traumatic a life changing event as I could imagine and still find the will and want to come shop for Rose with us.
One year ago I could not imagine that the founder of Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine would be reading my French leaning drivel
One year ago I could not have known that my best friend would move out of state
One year ago I could not know that a brilliant comedic writer would enter my life and forever change me
One year ago I could not know that I would be travelling to Memphis to meet a couple of my readers
One year ago I could not know that a sweet American living in France would find me
One year ago I could not know that the wine writer for the New York Times would read me, understand me, find something in my buzzy late night musings worth visiting time and time again

Mentally Absent

I don't know today I was just mentally absent it class. I mean I was physically there, but mentally I was somewhere else. Way off course. I wasn't feeling motivated. Not even to write and I love writing. I mean I didn't even finish my blog or a short story I had started writing for class. Then there was a discussion about psychology. I sort of felt like I was in a Frasier episode or something.

Here's a question I'm throwing out to my readers here. Would you ever send a correction to like a newspaper/magazine if there was a mistake in it? I think sometimes you should if the information is really inaccurate. But sometimes poorly worded articles are humorous. If they weren't there would be no "Headlines" segment on the Tonight Show.

Cultural Differences in Wedding Dresses

Starting from the time that you ability your boyish years through your adolescence date and gradually until you about-face to be a boyish adolescent, you will accept absolutely anticipation about alliance at atomic already in your life. It is aloof accustomed to do so and there is no charge for you to be abashed alike if you are a actual bourgeois person. This is because alliance is advised to be one of the best memorable and important contest in one's life.

Since alliance is article which is angelic and is declared to be a already in a lifetime experience, it is consistently acclaimed in a arresting manner. This is abnormally accurate if the families of the helpmate and benedict are awfully wealthy. In this affectionate of setting, there would absolutely be a lot of guests and of advance a admirable affair afterwards the wedding. However, you will apprehension that the focus of the accomplished bells commemoration and the affair (if the helpmate does not change to accidental clothing) will be the bells clothes which is beat by the bride. This is due to the actuality that bells gowns announce a huge allotment of alliance itself and has become a bells attribute throughout the years.

Asides from actuality a attribute of marriage, bells gowns are additionally awful prioritized in a bells adjustment for it has been a attitude to accomplish the helpmate attending her best during the ceremony. And you can alone do this by authoritative her abrasion the best affected of bells gowns.

There are a lot of variations of bells gowns in general. This is due to the actuality that ability plays a above role in the designs of these conjugal clothing. Some of the aspects of the clothes architecture which mostly varies due to cultural behavior are color, breadth and pattern. A absolute archetype is the acceptable bells gowns of the Vietnamese brides which is alleged the Ao dai. The Ao dai is usually in red color. It additionally has an oriental arrangement which is mostly apparent in the advanced allotment extending from the chest breadth to the thighs or feet. The red blush of this conjugal dress is in band with how the Vietnamese ability sees it as a assurance of acceptable luck and prosperity.

In the Asian countries with Eastern ability such as China and India, the bells dresses are agnate to the Ao dai of Vietnam with commendations to the acceptation of the red blush pertaining to acceptable luck. However, women these canicule from the said countries mostly opt to abrasion a blush added than red for their acceptable bells dress. White Western bells dresses are additionally acceptable a added accepted best for the boyish Chinese brides to be. This is affidavit that globalization has absolutely become article that has afflicted abundant bodies from all over the world.

Other countries such as Japan accept weddings wherein the helpmate will abrasion three or added dresses. This is done throughout the commemoration and afterwards which the helpmate will abrasion a bathrobe which is a accepted Japanese acceptable dress during the anniversary proper.

For Javanese bodies of Indonesia, they abrasion a kebaya which is a array of acceptable blouse with the batik. In the Philippines, the Baro't saya is the acceptable bells accoutrements for women which is partnered forth with the Barong Tagalog for men.

Nowadays though, there is a ascent appeal for conjugal gowns which are customized to fit the personality of the bride. These bells dresses are mostly accidental and accord a different blow to the ambiance of the commemoration itself which is a actual artistic way to differentiate your own wedding.

Celebrate Life Nutrition Review and Giveaway!

Satisfy and Control hunger all while eating chocolate?
Yeah, Right!
No, really you can... and its called Celebrate Life Nutrition!

A Little Bit about Celebrate Life Nutrition
For the first time in history more people are dying worldwide from the effects of overeating than from malnutrition. People are eating too much, too much fat, calories, cholesterol, and trans fats. While we are overeating we are starving our bodies of vital nutrients. Did you know that the key symptom of metabolic disorders is excess weight? Much more than a cosmetic concern, excessive weight is indicative of a growing number of diseases that kill, usually very slowly and expensively.
While genetics certainly play a role, there is a common factor behind the Deadly Quartet of Diseases – heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), type 2 diabetes, and obesity (all of which usually begin as excess weight). Many types of cancer, gallstones, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney stones, asthma, sleep apnea, osteoporosis, colitis, stroke, and irritable bowel syndrome are all linked to the same eating habits and lack of exercise as these four killers. Change what you eat, change your exercise habits, and these pernicious maladies can be controlled, diminished, or prevented entirely.
This is the health mission of Celebrate Life Nutrition. Celebrate is not about "combating disease." It’s about celebrating vibrant life. The difference is deliberate.

Why Celebrate Life Nutrition?

I ate a few pieces of the Cocoa Covered Almonds about 15 minutes before we had dinner to see if they could really help cut my cravings {and help me eat a bit less} and guess what? They did! Just by having a handful of the Celebrate Chocolate Covered Cocoa Almonds I ate about half of what I normally do. The truffles have the same effect when eaten before a meal. The truffles and the almonds taste delicious {my favorite of the truffles? The Raspberry!} and the Almonds have this crunchy coating beneath the Cocoa that is to die for! I even caught my husband with the bag of almonds and he had eaten almost half of the bag! {See, I told you they were yummy!}

So if you are looking for an easy and healthy way to curb cravings but satisfy your sweet tooth all at the same time Celebrate Life Nutrition is for you!

Counterfeit New Zealand polymer money

Look like nowadays, polymer notes also cannot run from people counterfeiting it. This counterfeit New Zealand polymer money look like original, only the colour is a little bit different. The news about the fakes $100 and $50 New Zealand currency reported by almost every New Zealand news website yesterday were found in Wellington. Police are expecting more fake $100 and $50 notes to surface in Wellington after a man allegedly tried to use one in an inner-city convenience store.

Three men have appeared in court on a range of charges after a shop worker noticed what appeared to be a counterfeit bill being used to pay for for a small item early on Monday morning. Tauranga police had warned on Sunday that counterfeit $100 and $50 notes were being used to make small purchases in the western Bay of Plenty so as to get legitimate money as change. A group would go into a store and distract shop staff as the counterfeit notes were handed over, police said.

Police believe the counterfeit notes may have been used elsewhere in the North Island. Detective Sergeant Martin Todd said the Wellington convenience store attendant realised the $100 bill was forged and called police, who arrested a man while he was in the store. From there two other men were arrested and several forged bills found on them and at a Wellington address.

"It would be nice to think we got them before they went too crazy.., but we anticipate there may be more calls to police (about the notes)," Mr Todd said yesterday.

"These fake notes vary in colour and texture to legal tender notes.

"My advice to retailers is to ensure any $50 or $100 bank notes.., are carefully checked to ensure they are the real thing."

In Wellington District Court on Monday, Brian Charles Henare, 21, was charged with attempting to use a forged $100 note and possessing three $100 and two $50 forged notes.

Whetu Williams, 18, was charged with having a forged $100 note.

Christopher Isitol Uritua, 26, unemployed, was charged with having under his control 41 forged $100 notes and two forged $50 notes.

He was also charged with possessing five forged $100 notes and using a forged bank note with intent to obtain property dishonestly.

All the charges relate to incidents in Wellington on Monday and no pleas were entered. The men, from Auckland, were remanded on bail until May 17.

Noma! El Bulli No More Numero Uno

A restaurant lives and dies by the quality of the food it serves. That's the bottom line, plain and simple. Yes, food presentation, service and atmosphere do play their own parts as well but at the end of the day, isn't the food really what people go to a restaurant for? Now, if you are Ferran Adria, the Catalonian molecular gastronomy guru, the restaurant becomes your culinary playground-cum-laboratory and the food, well.....it becomes the stuff of almost science fiction. As for your your guests, they become sort of like privileged children who gets to play in that playground every 6 months out of the year.

The new culinary discipline of molecular gastronomy has gained prominence in the culinary world thanks in large part to Adria's creative genius in dazzling his guests with outlandish food creations like spherical olives, powdered yogurt, parmesan marshmallows, gorgonzola shell, popcorn cloud, melon caviar and various savory foams (here is a link to a gallery of Adria's creations). Adria's playful and almost whimsical ways in redefining and reinventing how we look at food is ingenious and certainly one of the most original ideas in the restaurant business in a very long time.

El Bulli, Adria's famed 3 Michelin Star restaurant is located in the town of Roses on the beautiful northeast coast of Spain. In 2006, El Bulli ascended to the throne of being named the world's best restaurant, an annual list compiled by Britain's Restaurant magazine, and has stayed on top ever since. Known as The "S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant," this list, whose influence is debatable, has been published since 2002 and in the 8 years of its existence, only 4 restaurants have been honored with the best restaurant title, with El Bulli claiming an astonishing 5 of them (it also came out on top in the inaugural 2002 list). After playing second fiddle to England's The Fat Duck (another molecular gastronomy restaurant) in 2005, El Bulli has never looked back since. (Here's a list of books that has been published about El Bulli: A Day at El BulliEl Bulli 2003-2004El Bulli: 1998-2002 and El Bulli 1994-1997)
However, in January 2010, Adria shocked the culinary world by announcing that El Bulli would be closing its doors permanently at the end of the 2011 season, putting an end to one of the world's culinary meccas. Adria also announced that it will reopen in 2014 as an academy for advanced culinary studies. As to why El Bulli was closing, Mr. Adria revealed that the restaurant was losing as much as half a million Euros a year and was not able to sustain this level of financial loss any longer.

On the heels of that shocking El Bulli announcement comes the brand new 2010 list of the world's 50 best restaurants. Revealed just a few days ago, the list puts a sort of a coda on El Bulli's waning influence on the culinary world. After 4 years on top, El Bulli has finally been dethroned and is replaced by Noma of Copenhagen, Denmark. Noma was placed no. 3 in the 2009 list and has leapfrogged both El Bulli and The Fat Duck to become numero uno for 2010. Unlike both the restaurants that it beat to get to the top, Noma is not another forerunner in molecular gastronomy but features cutting edge regional and seasonal Nordic gourmet cuisine.

Here are the opening paragraphs of how Noma describes itself:

At noma, we aim to offer a personal rendition of Nordic gourmet cuisine, where typical methods of cooking, fine Nordic produce and the legacy of our common food culture are all being subjected to an innovative gastronomic approach. Carrying this line of thinking further, we view it as a challenge to play a part in bringing forth a regeneration of Nordic culinary craft, in its capacity to encompass the North Atlantic region and to brighten the world with its distinctive tastiness and special regional character.

What you will find here at noma is not centered so much on olive oil, foie gras, sun-dried tomatoes and Mediterranean black olives. We’ve been busy traveling around in the Nordic regions and we have been finding a number of simply phenomenal ingredients that we have flown into town for our use: Horse mussels, deep-sea crabs and langoustines from the Faeroe Islands, which are living right up until the moment they are served to our visitors. Halibut, wild salmon, cod and seaweed and curds from Iceland. Lamb, musk ox, berries and the purest drinking water from Greenland. In much the same fashion, we are constantly scanning for new sources of inspiration in Denmark, especially, as well as the other Nordic regions, for purposes of securing reliable sources of top-quality raw produce. This pertains both to very costly ingredients and also to ingredients of a more everyday character that we feel have come to be overlooked in the formulation of a salient Nordic approach to cooking: cereals, hulled grains and legumes, which you will come to experience here in the context of surprising preparations.

In a sense, this changing of the guard is an appropriate statement to how we see the culinary world today. Yes, experimentation, cutting edge food science and originality do have their places in this world but clean, regional, fresh and sustainable have become key ingredients to dining out. And Noma is now a perfect example of that concept.
