Review : Lemon Meringue Pout Polish by Sleek MakeUP

With the weather constantly changing from boiling and sunny to cold and drab, my lips are suffering. Sleek MakeUP sent me one of their Pout Polishes to try this week, and it couldn't have arrived at a better time!

The Pout Polishes are glossy, tinted lip conditioners with SPF 15. There are already four shades available in Sleek MakeUP's permanent range, but they have just released two limited edition shades - Lemon Meringue (which is the one I was sent) and Raspberry Souffle. Don't they sound deliciously yummety scrummety?!

What do Sleek MakeUP say?
Sleek MakeUP Pout Polishes nourish like a lip balm whilst leaving you with a finish of pout perfect lipgloss. As well as looking good, your lips feel great as Pout Polish contains SPF 15 to protect your lips from harmful sunrays.
Highly conditioning Pout Polish contains shea butter, almond, jojoba and avocado oil to deeply nourish your lips, so you can pucker up with confidence.

What do I say?
I was really excited to try the Pout Polish. I've read lots of great reviews about them, and am quite partial to the Sleek MakeUP range in general. The packaging is cute and simple and the little tub is handy to throw in your bag for when you're on the go.

This doesn't really have an overpowering smell of anything, but when I sniffed hard enough there were definite hints of coconut in there, which surprised me. I assumed, because of it's name, it would be lemon scented/flavoured. The coconut smell is subtle, though certainly not unpleasant, but I think I would have preferred a product named 'Lemon Meringue' to have a citrussy scent. The taste on the other hand is unpleasant. I don't know whether that's just this particular colour because some people say the taste is sweet, but the only way I can describe it is that it's like that horrible taste you get when you spray hairspray and accidentally get some in your mouth. Yuck! The taste doesn't last long too though, which is a good thing.

Now, at first glance the colour alarmed me - I mean, it's luminous yellow. However, I assumed that being a tinted lip conditioner, it will just provide my lips with a subtle tint across my lips. I was wrong. It is straight up yellow. Yellow. Yellow lips. They just don't work I'm afraid. My lips are naturally quite rosy, and the yellow even showed up on them. I tried mixing it with a variety of lipsticks, but it just gave them a yellow cast. It looks fairly subtle in the picture below, but I can assure you, it's very vibrant and very noticable in person.

Bright yellow colour and foul taste aside, the Pout Polish is a fab little product! It's got a lovely, soft and glossy texture, which means it applies like a dream. I just used my fingers but you can also use a lip brush if dipping into a pot is too messy for you. It gives a beautiful shine to the lips, isn't sticky like traditional lipglosses and it provides a smooth, shiny finish that doesn't settle into fine lines or cling to patchy areas. I can't stop rubbing my lips together when I'm wearing it because they just feel so smooth. It's a really luxurious feeling, having lips that feel like silk. The effects last after it's worn off too, which proves to me that the mix of nourishing oils and butters really do work.

The Pout Polishes are versatile too and can be worn alone or layered with other lipsticks or glosses, though I'm yet to find an attractive combination with this one! It's also a great option if you want something a little lighter and fuss free for the Summer months, or want the nourishment of a lip balm but the colour and shine of a gloss.

Price?
These cost £3.99 which, like the rest of the Sleek MakeUP range, is fantastic value for money. Don't forget that the Lemon Meringue and Raspberry Souffle colours are limited edition, and are only available from Superdrug or the website - www.sleekmakeup.com. A full list of the Superdrug stores that carry the Sleek MakeUP range can be found on their website too.

Would I repurchase?
I absolutely love the product and think it's unfortunate that I tried the yellow one. As a lip conditioner it is fantastic, definitely up there amongst the best I've tried, but the colour is just awful. I'm definitely going to repurchase the Pout Polish, I'm just going to make sure that it's a little more pleasing on the eye! I'm particularly lusting after the other limited edition shade, Raspberry Souffle.

Have you tried the Pout Polish? What do you think? Are there any colours you'd recommend?

xoxo
