When I first came across Bake It Pretty I couldn't believe my eyes...as I went from page to page I was astonished at all the lovely and unique items Bake It Pretty had for sale. Things that I {a pretty experienced baker} had never seen before. I wanted everything in the shop...thats right...everything. I even hear that Bakerella is a frequent customer! 

Oh. The. Joy!

Bake It Pretty shop has Cupcake liners, Candy molds, Flavored oils, Sprinkles, Fondant, Mixes, Gourmet Spices, and the list goes on...

I am a lucky girl because Amanda, the amazing owner of Bake It Pretty was able to answer a few of my questions....read on to learn more about Amanda and her wonderful shop "Bake It Pretty!"

 Hello Amanda,Tell me a bit about how Bake It Pretty began...

 It began with a little, personal blog I started in 2006 just for fun.  I shared photos of the baked goods I made, often using cute cupcake toppers from an old-school, local cake supply shop.  I had so many requests and emails about those toppers that I had a true light bulb moment, "The world (and Internet) needs a unique baking supply shop!"   I started slow on etsy and worked my way up. The rest is history.

Why the name 'Bake It Pretty'?

I'm not good at naming things.  I wanted something short, snappy, catchy and kinda retro, plus easy to spell and with a URL that wasn't already taken.  Ha!  Easier said than done.  I came up with "Bake It Pretty" out of the blue and it just worked, plus I couldn't think of anything better.  I like it more now than I did at first.  It's growing on me.

Where are you located?

We are in Swannanoa (say that three time fast!) just outside of Asheville, North Carolina.  In the smoky, blue mountains.

What is your favorite item that you sell?

I'm really partial to the Best-Ever Icing Kit, I designed it myself and it's sort of my baby.  I love how simple it is, but it works great and ANYONE can use it.  Really, it's so easy. I get such a kick out of hearing from happy customers that purchased the kit and love using it.

What item is considered your 'Best Seller'?

Cupcake liners!  They always sell well, in every color and style.  The polka dots are very popular (of course.)

Who/What inspires you?

Vintage cookbooks, my grandma, spring picnics, children's parties, my sister, French-stuff, anything tiny.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

I'm a swirl-girl.  It's too hard to choose between the two!

Cake or Cupcakes?

Cake 

(sorry, I know that's taboo these days, but I just love the look of a giant, layer cake.)

What is your all time favorite dessert?

Probably this crazy apricot custard pie my grandma makes.  It's very much a nostalgic thing for me, and apricots are my favorite fruit.

How about a favorite recipe?

I make these Vegan Jam Cookies often, and I adore them.  I'm not vegan, but this recipe is just so good, even better than the original version, I think.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I'm a crafty gal and I love to crochet, sew, cook, and make things. Right now we are looking for a used Minnie Winnebago to fix up as a family project and take on weekend trips.  It could be my biggest DIY project yet!

Favorite Book?

Little, Big by John Crowley and pretty much any good Steven King Book 

(oh yes, I have a dark side.)

Favorite Movie?

I'm a nerdy Wes Anderson fan.  Rushmore is definitely in the top-five.  I also love the classics like Gone With the Wind, Pride and Prejudice (A&E Version only,) and Meatballs.  Meatballs is a classic, right? 

Anything else you would like to share?

Thanks you so much for the interview!  We are so excited about the possibility of moving-on-up to a real retail space (hopefully) this Summer in downtown Asheville.  I think it will be quite an adventure and I can't wait to share it with everyone.
