Another day, another review haha.
This is the second Soap & Glory product that I bought as part of the 3 for 2 offer from Boots, and it cost £7ish. I adore Ocean Salt scrub from Lush, and I think that any product will have a long way to go to beat that.
The reason I love Ocean Salt is simple - since it's from Lush I trust the ingredients in it. Secondly, it does exactly what it says it does. It's an abrasive scrub that removes every little bit of dead skin, leaving my skin baby-soft - but it's not so abrasive that it scrubs me red raw. It contains fine sea salt with a layer of big, chunky, coarse sea salt (think rock/crystal salt - ouch!) on top. Now if the scrub was made up entirely of the rock salt, I wouldn't use it. It's far too harsh for the delicate skin on my face, and some of it can be quite sharp. This is why I like to mix the whole tub together, so that everytime I use it, I'm getting predominantly the fine salt with a few chunks of the coarse salt running through it. Far less painful! It smells scrummy with lime, salt, and vodka (yes really!), like a tropical cocktail and it leaves behind a moisturising layer when I wash it off. My skin looks so smooth and glowy after I use this, that it'll take one hell of an amazing product to beat it, in my humble opinion of course. A scrub titled 'The Greatest Scrub Of All' is bound to be better than Ocean Salt though, right?
First things first, I'm awarding it a point for it being in a tube rather than a pot. That's my only bugbear with Lush products. I hate using products in a tub when I'm in the shower. I either drop it and spill it all, or water from the shower splashes into the tub and dilutes the product a little bit. Quite annoying!
This is suitable for all skin types, you just change the frequency to suit you're skin - for example, if you have oily/combination skin, use it 3-4 times a week, and if you have dry/sensitive skin, use it less often, like 1-2 times a week. I like this idea as it means you don't have trawl through shelves and shelves of products to find one that's right for your skin type.
This has the same cucumber/mint smell that The Fab Pore has, so is quite refreshing when you use it in the morning. The scrub itself is a thin, white, almost-runny mixture, with fine and sparse exfoliating particles. Hmmm. It does redeem itself slightly though as it has a pearlised sheen to it, which I really like as it makes me think of glowing and healthy skin. I've mentioned a few times on this blog that when I use a scrub, whether it be a body scrub or a face one, I like them to be really abrasive. I want to feel them peeling away the layers of dead skin, so from the consistency alone, this one didn't seem like it would do the job.
The first time I used it, I used the Fab Pore straight after it. The day after using the two products, I broke out. I never use a scrub and a mask on the same day, so I don't know what possessed me to start doing it with this one - but I'm pleased to report that this wasn't the product breaking me out. You can read my Fab Pore review here - that was the culprit. I worked that out after I used the two products on different days. So, my best advice when using this product, is to use it on it's own - no face masks or whatever on the same day.
A 20p-sized splodge is enough to do my face and neck, and there are more exfoliating grains packed into it that you think. They're not as abrasive as I'd like, but I do feel as if it's giving my face a really good scrub because the scratchy bits are so fine. It has got little orange grains in it, that are apparently 'smooth boosting spheres that pop open when you press on them!' What a load of tosh. Yes, they explode when you press on them, but they do nothing in my opinion. They'd be better off replacing them with bigger scrubby bits, to please the hardcore scrubbers like me! Haha. I really like the fact that you can massage your face to your hearts content - the particles don't seem to ever dissolve so you can give your face a really good scrub. I can really feel my face softening as I massage it in, which is something I don't get with Ocean Salt.
It washes off easily, and I didn't have any residue left on my face. My skin felt really smooth and soft, and when I stepped out of the shower, it wasn't all that red either, which is a rarity for me as my cheeks are always red, whether I exfoliate or not! I said that the pearlescent finish made me think that my skin would be all glowy... well it almost did. It did look healthier, but my skin looks healthier every time I exfoliate, so I'm putting that down to the removal of dead skin, not the product itself.
Rating : 3.5 out of 5. Is it better than Ocean Salt? No. Is it 'The Greatest Scrub Of All'? No, but it is a pleasant little scrub that I enjoy using. I will probably repurchase this, but only if it is on offer. That's not because I think £7 is too much to pay for a face scrub, but because this isn't going to become my go-to HG can't-live-without face scrub. I still love my Ocean Salt, but this is one I'm definitely going to consider alternating Ocean Salt with.
Hope you found my review helpful :) x
