Review : Soap & Glory Fab Pore facial peel mask

Boots had a 3 for 2 offer on skincare recently so I bought 2 Soap & Glory things to try out, one of which was The Fab Pore, which is described as a facial peel mask. It retails for £5.88 at Boots, but the Soap & Glory range is often on offer there. I chose this because I was getting a bit bored of the fresh face masks from Lush, and have heard rave reviews about Soap & Glory things. Plus I had already trialled a body scrub and body butter and was really impressed so wanted to try more of the range.

It claims to loosen dead skin cells that contribute to pore clogging, sop up extra oils on the skin, smooth the skin's surface, and boost your skin with antioxidants. Sounds good right? I love the packaging, as I always do with S&G products, and the first thing you notice when you open the tub is the smell. It's not the normal sickly smell of S&G products that I hate, but a smell that's really clean and fresh. I thought it was cucumbery but LionLovingTiger commented in my haul post that it was mint. I'm not 100% convinced it's entirely either, so I'll settle for a minty cucumber smell haha.

I love love love the consistency of this. It's a pale pink thick, smooth clay-type mask, and it has little green exfoliating beads that explode as you massage it onto your skin. It feels gorgeous on your skin because it is so smooth - I've never felt a mask like it. If you're at all familiar with the Lush fresh face masks, you'll know they contain lots of different ingredients and have different textures - and this is the complete opposite. I like the fact that it doesn't dry or harden too, unlike some clay-type face masks. I can feel my skin tightening as they dry - urgh. This washes off easily too, and isn't as messy as you'd think.

You can leave it on for 5 minutes for a quick refresh, or 15 minutes for a more deep cleanse. The first time I used it I left it on for the full 15 minutes, and to be honest, I didn't feel a noticable difference to my skin. It claims to make pores looks smaller and loosen up dead skin cells - I didn't notice this at all. It was only my first use though, so maybe a few more uses and I'll notice a difference. The next morning though, I woke up with the mother of all pimples on my chin. I wasn't sure whether it was hormonal or due to the face mask. Hmmm. Maybe 15 minutes was too long for my skin?

I used it for the second time a week later, but I tried it for 5 minutes instead. Again, my skin didn't feel any different. It didn't feel smoother, it didn't feel softer, it didn't look clearer... nothing. And yet again the next morning, I had another pimple, this time on my cheek. Coincidence?

I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt though, and I tried it again for a third time. I left it on for about 10 minutes this time and when I washed it off, there was no beneficial difference to my skin - surprise surprise. And guess what? Another bloody pimple the next morning! In my eyebrow of all places.

Three experiences with this face mask, and three breakouts the day after using it? Doesn't really bode well. I gave it to The Mother to try aswell, to see whether it was the mask or just my skin. Her skin isn't really acne-prone, but it can get quite greasy. She tried it twice - once for 15 minutes and once for 5 minutes. Her thoughts? She hated it! She likes the conistency as she finds it really soothing, but that's about it. She doesn't like the smell and the two times that she used it, she developed some pimples - which she is blaming me for! She think the mask made her skin look a little bit dull too, which is the opposite effect of what we want! We want bright, dewy, healthy looking skin, and she thinks this just makes her look washed out and tired... and she hated to say it, but old!

Rating : 0.5 out of 5 - and that's only for the gorgeous consistency and fresh smell. I just want something that I feel is doing something good to my skin. This didn't. My skin wasn't smoother, softer, less oily... and more pores don't look any different, except that they're now covered in spots! Such a shame as I really wanted to love this product. I'll definitely NOT be repurchasing this, nor will we be using up the rest of the tub. My Mam wants to "take the dickhead directors to Trading Standards for all the false advertising crap they put on the box. I'll give them fab pore, the lying gits". Haha I love my Mam!

Have you tried it? What did you think? xx
