The Tuneables Review

The Tuneables is a wonderful learning tool for my four year old daughter. Arts programs in schools are unfortunately the first to get cut and many children are not getting any education in music, art, or theater. As an actress it makes me angry and as a mother it makes me furious. I want my children to have the opportunity to express themselves in some sort of artistic form. That is where The Tuneables comes into play…rhythm, tone, and many other musical tools are learned throughout this amazing dvd. Some of the characters featured in the DVD include Gloria- a piano { repertoire}, Sunny-a symbol {rhythm}, Bell-a chime {tonal}, Music Box-a musical  box {Listening}.  They teach at a reasonable pace and keep children engaged through visual cues and music.
My daughter struggles a bit with some of her fine motor skills and since she has started watching The Tuneables I have seen a large improvement.

A bit about The Tuneables
The Tuneables is a DVD/CD collection, sponsored by the Music Intelligence Project, that takes a unique approach to music education. Typical music DVDs/CDs encourage kids to sing and dance along, or passively listen-not to learn music fundamentals. What makes The Tuneables different is that it requires focused attention and active participation.Children enjoy watching and listening to the magical world of Tuneville as the characters encourage them to hear and sing tonal patterns in songs, develop their rhythmic skills, expand the range of their singing voices, and become immersed in the sounds and melodies of classical music.

My Review
I received The Tuneables DVD/CD Collection to review. The Tuneables immediately engaged my four year old daughter from the moment I turned it on. The Tuneables has the audience fully participate by hearing, doing, and naming which builds on aural perception, kinesthetic response, and verbal association. My daughters favorite song was 'Love Somebody' which focuses on tonal pattern; Do-Mi-Sol and moving to the beat. The actions she has to perform are; singing along, finding tonal patterns in the song, and lap pat to the beat. The CD that is included along with the DVD is great for car trips. The CD focuses on the same primary components as the DVD; Moving to the beat {rhythm}, Hearing and Singing tonal patterns using the tones, "Do, Mi, and Sol", Immersing in the sounds and melodies of classical music {listening}, and expanding repertoire of classic children's songs {repertoire}.

I really like that parents don't need special knowledge about music in order to teach it to their children because The Tuneables does it for you. Parents and educators can also download free companion guides that provide in-depth information about their child's learning and how to expand the musical experiences provided in the DVD. The Tuneables makes learning fun and enjoyable and it is nice to know that while you are getting some chores done around the house your child is busy learning her tonal patterns!

The Tuneables DVD and Music Box CD 2-disc set is available online at thetuneables.com for $29.99.
