According to the expert, who has had the pleasure of tasting the much coveted Saint-Emilion vintage, it was "without doubt one of greatest Bordeaux of all time, not only for its rare quality but also by its longevity, in the sense that it could be kept for another 50 years". The name of the private collector who submitted the winning bid during the sale at Christie's for the rare Bordeaux wasn't revealed. But whoever it was went well above the $150,000 to $250,000 the auction house had estimated it would fetch, The Daily Telegraph reported. Christie's wine expert Michael Ganne said the wine is the "only known bottle in the imperial format" for this particular Saint-Emilion vintage. We are absolutely delighted by the result obtained by this bottle of mythical Cheval-Blanc 1947," Ganne said.
