We All Have A Dream

From Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” Speech Washington DC August 28th 1963:

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

…………………………………………………………………

Tonight a man was indeed elected because of the content of his character and not the color of his skin….as the mother of a biracial child, I too have had a dream and tonight, the possibility, no the probability of that dream was splashed across my television screen…..blue, it just kept getting bluer…..

The real face of America showed up tonight, an America of many colors, beliefs….a nation strong and united. It took this one man, a sane voice of hope and understanding, a leader and this country’s willingness to stand behind him to make this happen….didn’t think I would ever see it, honored and so proud that I have. Now I know that all those times I told my son that he could be anything….that his color would not hold him back, that all he had to do was be a good person, work hard and never give up hope, that all this country has to offer would be available to him…….millions of voices just backed me up….
